Take wheels off without scatches?

Hey guys what is the trick to not scratching the wheels when taking them off. When you have an impact air gun its easy to sratch the area around the lug nuts.

do not use an air gun, use a torque wrench and wrap the end of it with something. I would also invest in some thinner tuner lugs if u havent already done so.

^^WHS^^
JMO but impact should be taboo on wheels.
You can wrap some electrical tape arround the socket... it'll help a little.

Cool sounds good. I was thinking of using mole skin to wrap the socket with. Its the suff you use for blisters on your feet. It has an adhesive backing and it is soft on the outside.

Ditto... and I use an impact wrench. Nut wells are flawless as the day I bought the car. Whenever I bring it into service, I place my "special" sockets on the passenger seat and tell the service advisor to have the techs use them instead of theirs. I still use a good ol fashioned torque wrench for a final tightening after the impact wrench as threaded it most of the way.

This turned out to be a pretty informative post. Thanks for the replies. What do they call those special sockets? Where do you get em?

DannoG35 07-18-2006 09:48 PM

Hey does anyone know where to get that socket?
