car shimmy's over 60mph
I've had this problem for awhile now, it's not too bad, but I can feel it and other people riding in the car can. When I get up to 60mph, I feel as if I have a bent rim. The car isn't as smooth as it used to be. I know it's not my rims, I have new rims on the car. When the rims were brand new they did that. I think they actually do it more than the stocks, but I don't remember. What could be causing this? A simple wheel balance could fix it? I got the rims with the tires mounted and balanced and just slapped them on when I got them. Somebody else told me that it could mean my rear rotors are bad? Thanks for your help in advance guys. I appreciate it as it's driving me nuts.

hmm.. is the off-set and everything fit perfectly? if it doesn't fit perfect. it causes your suspension to tilt sideway. This is also very bad for your tires. It gets wear out very quickly. whats the fitment on those "new" rims u got?

Did you installed the hub ring?

Check that your tires are balanced...if not the car will shake pretty bad when going faster. If thats not it might want to make sure that your drive shaft isnt off at all. Was the car in an accident before you baught it?

All the above posters have hit upon many of the common problems.
Most obvious would be correct tire pressure in all tires....as well as wheel balancing. If the vibration occurs at certain speeds only, its probably balancing. Did you hit any deep potholes? Bent rim.....Warped rotors and any other suspension part bent or out of alignment could cause the vibration.... Check the easiest things first.... |
Most rims even when new are not balanced. I think my dad had a set of HRE's once and three of them required no balancing, but one still did.
I'd check that first thing. |
Okay, the air was low on all tires, I fixed that, and I noticed one rim is bent in the front now. That explains some of it, but I'm guessing you guys are right that the rims need to be balanced. I got them brand new, the car was brand new also and was never in an accident. So I guess they were never balanced and now I have a bent rim so that's causing it. Can this be fixed? Has anybody got their rim fixed 100%?
