What can I do to stop my brakes from squeaking?

I have 27k in my G. Have not had any brake service performed or anything. I'm beginning to hear squeaky noises when I'm reaching a stop sign or when I'm near to making a complete stop. Please advise.

Might need new pads, or they might just have a lot of brake dust. Check to see how much pad you have left. If you have a decent amount left, hit the rotors with some brake clean.

I'll just get both things done. Is this something I can get done at the dealership?

Yes. I would only go there if for sure I knew it needed brakes. Otherwise, they're likely to try to sell you brakes when you might not need them. Take a look first.

Factory pads are going to create excessvie brake dust//and wear out rotors prematuraly vise versa
i suggest hawk racing pads, they are quiet, hardly no brake dust,
and stop very well.. They may cost a bit more but you def
wont regret it in the long run/

put some wd-40 on it, that'll help!

jk please don't.

i have the same problem with squeaky brakes...took it to the shop today and they said front pads need to be replaced....i see that you said hawk racing pads up top...one of the sites i looked at online wants 153 for the hawk ble racing pads and 212 for the dct-70 or would i be fine just going with hawk ceramics for a little less??how much of a difference is there with the brembos using these pads??thanks

Don't get hawk blue. You will DESTROY your rotors; those are race pads.

eagans2002 12-28-2008 07:01 PM

so what pads would you suggest using because i found some nismos and they seemed decent...so if so what hawk pads should i look for?

No, no, he's just saying that hawk blues are specifically for racing rotors. The regular Hawk HPS are more than adequate: http://www.hawkperformance.com/performance/hps.php

Noise is caused by pad vibration [especially when there is a wear lip on rotor]. Unlikely that any pad will be quieter than oem pads and oem rotors.............why they were selected to wear fast to reduce the overall noise problem. Both would wear fast and need replacing at frequent intervals to restore that as new lack of sound.

Many different things can cause brake noise, so the noise will have to be diagnosed. As a guess, with almost 30,000 miles on the original brake pads, they are probably worn down to the wear sensors, which squeak to let you know the brake pads need replacing before they wear even further and have the brake pad backing plates score and destroy the brake rotors, thus requiring expensive brake rotor replacement too.

Get the vehicle in to have the brake system diagnosed and serviced, quickly, before the brake rotors get destroyed and cost you money to replace.

You can get brake services done at virtually any auto center. It doesn't have to be done by the very expensive dealership.
