Grinding noise from rear wheel

I've been having a grinding noise from the back of the left wheel.

it's there when I cruise

noise gets worse when I brake

gets better when I drive at highway speeds or maybe the wind is hiding the noise.

it doesn't sound like I need to change the pads.

i would def check the pads i had the same issue .i replaced the pads and noise went away

thanks for the reply. a friend of mine said the same thing. I'll go check it out soon. I hope my rotors don't get warped when I have time to go.

Might be a wheel bearing getting worn down. I had a similar problem when i was running 22's on my other car. the wheels destroyed the bearings.

WILLIE BEANS 05-12-2009 12:03 PM

either the pads or the rotors..

AARONHL 05-12-2009 12:11 PM

Wheel bearing probably **** the bed, do you hear more road noise than usual from the rear?

With bearings i've always heard a hummm instead of a grinding noise. You might want to check the e brake pads inside the rotors. Have you ever driven the car with the e-brake on?

let me bump this up.
same noise.
put in new pad last dec. rotors are stock with 52k miles.
mines not a humming noise, its very slight grinding. i hope its the rotors and not bearing.

^how many miles you got?

Very easy to test bearing.

Jack the car up
take off the wheel
take off the brakes
spin the hub and listen for the noise, or wobble it back and forth to see if there is any play.

My rear bearing was took a shiiet, i just jacked up the car and shook the wheel up and down. It felt horrible like the wheel was held on with glue

Glex25 04-01-2010 09:34 AM

The op's issues was a seized caliper

His rotor was cracked from the heat the caliper had generated

laksjd84 04-01-2010 09:35 AM

wut? damn..cracked huh?
Well i think its the bearing, so im gonna make appointment for service at the dealer right away. lets just hope im cover under power train.

I have the same problem and I was told that it was the bearings!! The only problem that I'm having with that is I can't find the HUB Assembly any freakin were other than the dealer and they are jacking the price way to high!

laksjd84 04-06-2010 05:49 PM

^ are you out of warranty?
cause to my knowledge, bearing is covered by power train warranty?

dawgnasty1 04-08-2010 05:17 PM

Grinding noise from rear wheel

Yeah! I bought an extended power train warranty!!!! BUT it only covers the axel and all the internal parts not the wheel bearings nor rotors. I got screwed!!! I have 82K miles on my G. So I'm past the factory warranty! So take a good look @ your warranty info.
