Front Suspension Rattle.

when ever i go over small bumps that vibrate the car i hear a wobble noise like if something was loose up front.

had my front end suspension checked out, but everything is on nice an tight. thinking it was a blown shock or something to that matter but it wasent. as i dont hear the noise if i hit a pot hole ,but more on bumpy roads. its weird to explain.

i took it to the dealer, there telling me its my after-market suspension like i figured they would say.

they gave me the excuse its the after-market H&R springs vibrating on the sturt. telling me the spring is loose and that the noise i'm hearing is the spring on the strut. i really find this hard to beleive.

First thing I would do is make sure the nut (nut in the engine bay, right in the middle of the strut tower) is torqued down enough. You will need an air gun to do this since doing it by hand will spin the complete strut.

You can also have a look at the end links. They've been known to knock when the bushings go bad.

Do you have a front camber kit?

apintojr 05-14-2009 01:31 PM

no, no camber kit. the car rode fine for years dropped. i had my mechanic check it out. nothing loose, or bad bushings. so i took it to the dealer and they told me the same thing.

except they gave me the excuse its my shorten springs on the stock shocks. that the spring is loose, but its not loose at all. when the car is lifted the spring does not shift at all.

i did replace the stock top mounts up top. thats the only thing i've done so far. i'm about to put my stock springs and tires back on and see if it still rattles.

It is possible that it could be your shocks.

apintojr 05-14-2009 03:11 PM

had them replaced too when i replaced the upper mounts. this was about 3 weeks ago.

this problem been going on for about 2 months.

same issue

i had my "TABLE DU BAS" changed because this was causing the noise....but it started all over again (was fixed when i got them changed) errrrrrrr now they say its my shocks.....go figure

apintojr 05-14-2009 04:45 PM

sorry, no idea what that is

I recently had a knocking / clunking noise coming from my passenger front. I ended up changing the compression rods for both sides, plus endlinks in all four corners... guess what... now I have a small knocking coming from the drivers side.

Could it be a defective new factory rod?
Could it be the shocks - car has 100000KM and the sport red shocks (sedan)
Could it be lower ball joint w/ knuckle assembly?

I don't know what to do, but I dropped some coin into this fix, and I am not satisfied with the outcome. I did not hear this knock on the driver side before, but now I do - and I went all out and replaced both compression rods.

???

another thing i've noticed is that my steering wheel vibrates roughly. only when the car is making the rattling.

apintojr 05-20-2009 10:46 AM

well, im putting my stock springs back on this friday.

i really hope it still makes the noise so i can take it back to the dealer.

I have the same problem!!!!

jimmyc13 10-11-2009 07:18 AM

Not sure if it's the same problem I had a few years ago...mine was a clunking/rattle noise when hitting small bumps. Dealer first replaced the rods, but that didn't work, so they then changed out the whole assembly (i.e. not just the rod...sorry, I forget what the other parts are), but that fixed the problem.

parhamm1 10-11-2009 08:47 AM

I have this same problem too. There's a random pop at times around slow, uneven turns. Weird clunking noises over speed bumps.... Car was perfectly fine before I put on 350z htechs....

AARONHL 10-11-2009 07:15 PM

I have no I what it could be. Two days ago I replaced the lower ball joint with another used ball joint from the junk yard. The noise is still present so I am leaning towards the compression rod ball joint.

I'm pretty sure it's not the compression rod bushing because I don't see how a solid bolt-up could be rumbling like this...
