Compression rod nightmare. Snapped bolt. FML
#16
My compression rod seized too. Got it off by cutting off the outer metal casing and rubber, then heating the seized metal with a torch. Took 5 minutes with a weak torch after cutting the casing.

If all that happened is your stud snapped off you just need to find a guy on Facebook locally who will weld on a new 12.9 or 10.8 bolt of similar size and thread pitch (along with a corresponding nut obviously) and do it right.... That involves grinding bolt studs down to arrow points with decent sized flats in order to get as much weld area as possible. If you can get it anywhere near spec it'll probably hold up fine, mine has and my car's been beat since. My guy charged me I think $120 but this is by no means an easy job and we already had a relationship.
Nobody wants to do it for liability and insurance reasons, you gotta find someone who doesn't care about that or DIY.
