Lower Ball Joints Need Replacing

So during the overhaul I am doing on on my G (https://g35driver.com/forums/g-spot/...e-rebuild.html) I have came down to the suspension now and noticed I need the following things replaced:

1. both lower ball joints.
2. both outer tie rods.

I called the local Infiniti dealer - who told me that the lower ball joints are a part of the spindle assembly. Another Infiniti dealer told me it was part of the compression rod. A third told me they weren't sure exactly what piece it came with. Has anyone on here ever had to replace your lower ball joints - and what did you end up buying for this? A quick search on here makes me think it's part of the compression rod but I am just not sure - and would hate to order a a $300+ part only to find out I didn't need it.

My tie rods tend to last roughly 4-6 months at a time - and I assume this is because I am dropped. Is there a stronger aftermarket set you guys would recommend I go with?

Hey, the first dealer knows what he's talking about
the lower ball joint is spart of the spindle, even with your discount through us they'd be $330 each
the outer tie rod ends are $58 each of course with your VIN I could get you the exact part numbers you are looking for but this is without knowing more information

Thanks!

I'll PM you my VIN later on today once I am back from the office. If it helps it's a 2003 G35 sedan, rwd, non sport, doggy door (late 2002 production).

Is there an alternative for the lower ball joints? Such as this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2-FRO...#ht_1696wt_939

I'm not sure where they came from, they are definitely aftermarket, and you'll still have to press the old ball joints out and press those in, and probably crack the steering knuckle after that..... just my two cents on those,
40014-AL550 RH Knuckle Assembly
40015-AL550 LH Knuckle Assembly
48640-AL585 LH Outer Tie Rod
D8520-AL525 RH Outer Tie Rod

You can PM me your VIN for verififcation, however based off your information you provided, I am pretty sure that's the ticket

I have these...lasted through few track days and rough Toronto roads. 1 .5 hour of labour to install. NO ISSUES with installation.

And for $330 each Infiniti can perform fellatio on me....

Phil,

Several of our members have successfully replaced just the ball joints w/o replacing the knuckle. It's actually a lot easier to do than I thought it would be, see this thread specifically post #84: https://g35driver.com/forums/brakes-...ed+ball+joints I need to replace mine, the driver's side is ripped and leaking grease so I'm looking at the set High Boost mentioned. I'm dropped significantly and am convinced at 97K miles that's why mine are shot. We have a local club member that has the exact same issue as mine with significantly less miles, but is just as low. I guess it's true, you do have to pay to play!

Mine died after 130K km. I was never excessively lowered- 350Z springs until this spring.
If aftermarket BJ last only 30K, it is still huge cost difference.
Nothing is wrong with wear at high mileage, but such "upselling" by Infiniti is not nice. BJ were made separately by OEM supplier...why not sell them separately? It takes a phone call and set up of new part number in database. Is it that difficult?

I had mine for 3 months so far.

Well since my last post, the passenger side boot has ripped. I'll be replacing them both soon with the Megan Racing versions. Yes they're more expensive, but because they are designed to return a lowered car's suspension back to the factory geometry the car will drive better and handle a lot better than if I replaced with stock BJs. Plus replacing the stockers every 30K seems like hell to me, that's every year and a half as much as I drive.

This is the cheapest I found them. Haven't sent an offer yet, but plan to offer just under $200 to see if they bite. Probably won't order them until next week or so.

Mark how long have you had them on? Did you install them yourself? Glad to hear you're happy with them, I wasn't about to spend $500 for the Moonface versions.
