Why do my Brembo's suck?!?

Rebuilt a set of oem Brembos and had them powdercoated.. Took my car to the dealer to flush all the old fluid out and the pedal still goes lower than my standard brakes.. If I double pump them they bite hard.. My car is the fully loaded 04 if that makes a difference.. I was expecting a big difference and better brake feel but my standard brakes are much more impressive right now.. :dunno:

Larger brakes don't bite harder or stop better, the pad determines that. The only difference is brake fade when tracking and looks when parked.

I have hawk ceramic pads, you think that is the problem??

Urbanengineer Jul 29, 2015 07:11 PM

Did you go wth new rotors? bed in is very important.

Frankieg35 Jul 29, 2015 07:14 PM

Yeah they are, should I give them a bit to bed in??

Bedding in doesn't just happen. It is a series of purposeful hard stops from escalating speeds with a brief cool down in between each stop. Google it for specifics.

If I double pump them they bite hard as hell and the pedal stays high and stiff if I come to a stop, feels like how I was expecting them to feel.. But the pedal goes to the floor and there is no bite..

Do you have stainless steel brake lines?

well, sh!t, that was my best guess :icon43:.

when you pc'ed the calipers, did you get reseal kits installed instead of re-using the old bolts?

also, read what your specific pads say about their proper bedding process, every pad has a different set of instructions iirc.

I put in all new seals.. Not sure about what it said for the bed in process, I'd have to look but I don't think that's the problem..

Are you confident the dealer successfully bled the lines and there's no air in them?

ScraggleRock Jul 29, 2015 11:08 PM

I know exactly what you're talking about. But, like buddy said they aren't really made for stopping on a dime. They're made to take you from triple digits to double digits quickly and cool-ly (and they do that very well). I just always figured that second pump had a lot more vacuum assist from the brake booster for some reason. Haha
