Hello. My son has a 2007 g35 sedan. He apparently hydroplaned into a curb. He smashed the rear passenger side wheel. The camber and radial arms were bent. We got replacements from the dealer. Before replacement the hub was tilted downward. It was a bit of a hassle but we got the new ones on. Once replaced the wheel now sticks out fuether towards the front. Nothing else seemed bent. I adjusted the camber and toe as much as possible but the toe was still way off. I loosened all the arms and then removed the coil basket arm. With it off, I can visually make the wheel align. However, as you can see, it's off by quite a bit. I'm not sure what else to adjust to get it close. I have inspected all parts against the other side and I can't find anything else that might be bent or out of place. Does anyone know what I could try next? It doesn't seem to be a factor but would the shock connection to the knuckle affect this?thanks

Pretty sure something else is bent for it to still be that far off, you are taking your measurements with it off the jackstands and the suspension loaded yes?

Is the vehicle lowered? If yes the toe was probably off before the crash and you need a rear toe kit.

On a separate note, is that a huge sidewall gash in the tire in that picture?

This is my first time dealing with suspension. This is my son's car and so I'm trying to save him money. So....no. This is with it on jacks. If I reattach the coil bucket and put it on the ground I believe it's still off. Would there be an order to which I'm suppose to tighten/adjust the arms? I'm just trying to get it close so we can drive it to get it properly aligned (if it's possible) and save him a tow charge.

It is not lowered.

That is the spare tire, so thanks for noticing. He tore the tire and bent the rim...

I don't think there's a specific ORDER but you do want the vehicle settled on the suspension when you final torque everything, personally I have a large stack of 2x8 wood cut into 18" pieces that I place under the tires then get it off the jackstands and onto the wood so you can still get under and tighten everything up. You should check through the factory service manual though just to verify steps, it's section RSU, rear suspension.

Thanks for the help. I've read through the rsu. It's pretty clear on things. However, I'm not too sure about the wood pieces. Is there another way to do this with a jack or jack stands? I just don't like the safety factor of that damn thing falling on me...Thanks again.

The vehicle won't fall, you'll just be putting the wood under the rear tires as dunnage to get the vehicle high enough that you can still be under it to torque, keep the front end on jackstands. All fasteners should be snug hand tight so you're just applying final torque, set up rear jackstands and leave them in place as insurance if you want but a 2x8 is plenty wide to support the vehicle.

I tried to reconnect the lower link but it just wouldn't line up. I could get the bolt into the rear side but the front side was just too far off. (See pic). I did lots of measurements and it doesn't seem like anything is bent where all the arms and links connect to the frame. Could there be damage where the axle and hub connect?

In my experience, sometimes things need to be in a certain spot during assembly. The FSM has its way of installing things but I always install the spring bucket and spring last. Maybe consider putting a little load on it with the jack, remove that bolt and then slowly Lower the jack till the rear spring bucket drops enough to get the spring out.

I would almost bet more arms are bent. You should be more than good in terms of adjustment if everything was still straight. I'm not certain if the coupe and sedan have the same measurements, but you can have the rear "camber arms" for free if you want. I just installed camber arms on my car.

For the knuckle to get bent something would've had to got really screwy.

Judging from the angle of the bends on the first photos it was one hell of an impact, definitely possible for other pieces to be bent but it should be visibly obvious. Aluminum will be cracked if it's bent that far.

Mechanic says the sub frame is probably bent a little. Instead of replacing the frame he offered to rout out the hole to adjust toe more. What are opinions on that? My only concern is if anything else is affected by the bent frame.

The subframe is cheap and pretty easy to get off I would just replace it if it's bent.

He said $1500. And i assume that'd without labor

That has to be with labor, a brand new OEM one is only $570, a used one is half that price.

It's not hard to get it out either, remove the rear differential, most of the suspension components and it's held in place with 4 large bolts.
