Compression Rod Ball Joint Is Loose

I installed new suspension and when i went to tighten the lugnuts for the tires the whole car moves back and forth a little. I tracked it down to the compression rod ball joint, the bolt is wiggling but i cant get it any tighter then what it is. i pryed as hard as i could and tightened it the best i could. I cant remember if i used the old shims or if the compression rod came with new shims but it seems like they are not working. I dont know what to do, should i order new shims and try again or is there a some thing you can do to make sure the bolt doesnt spin when trying to tighten it. Im out of ideas and its really annoying to go over bumps and hear clunk and when i brake it clunks. Thanks in advance.

My guess is the cone nut was the wrong size, or that it wasn't installed over the shaft of the ball joint.. Disassemble it and check it out.

Usually they do NOT provide you with a new cone nut, you have to press off the existing one and reuse it.

I had the same issue years ago because I forgot the cone spacer. You have forgot it too, do not drive that car until you have the spacer in the right place!!!

its there i just checked, i dont know why its still loose. I put a new one in and it still just spins. I jack up the compression rod a little to put pressure on it and i tightened it a little more but its wierd its like the cone isnt there but it is like there is space in between. Something maybe wrong with the ball joint or its not pushed down far enough or something?

it tightened when i put a washer between the nut and the arm. I dont remember there being a washer but hmmm guess ill find out when im done.

Yep putting the washers in between fixed it, its not rocking anymore and was able to tighten all the way. So much better not having it rock when you brake and clunk over bumps
