Selling my G probably taking a loss
 

Can someone help me out . Earlier in feb 2015 I bought my G coupe for 13.5k out the door with about 100k miles .. Kbb said I saved about 1000 at the time . Anyway it's now almost a year later and I'm trying to get rid if the G35 to get a g37 ... I owe about 8500 with 118k on it still and no one will give me even 7k for it ... Dealers have offered me 4k-5k . It's been in 2 accidents but body is in 8-9/10 shape its sitting on g37 wheels. Nismo front bumper and berks HFC . Not much done just simple . 2 sensors need to be replaced but why is it that no one will buy the car ?!?! Am I really gonna have to fork out 3500 for someone to take my car ?! What must I do to break even :(

Put it back to stock and sell your aftermarket stuff.

Agreed there. Put the cats back in. Dealers don't like modded cars, especially exhaust mods. And the oxygen sensor is an emissions issue as well.

Stock cats are expensive af lol I might have to find someone willing to trade cats near me . Realistically these dealers love the way my car looks and sounds and the few times I left my car on the lot to negotiate. People are walking around my car checking it out like they want to buy it . I should sell it to one of them lol ... But the dealers seem to hammer the fact that the car has been in 2 accidents . So I fear even if I do put it back to stock they will only give a few more hundred for the $700-1000 I put back into the car.

Will accidents really affect the value this much ? I mean if be happy with 7k and me only coming out 1500 out of my pocket to release the car

How bad were the accidents? What is on the carfax?

Accidents do effect the value of the car, not because they happened, but because people know they happened.

My current G was involved in 5 total accidents, one of them almost totaled it. To me it still worth more than a same year G with zero accidents because I know how it was repaired in each and that it is much better than any other stock G out there, but to someone else who does not know this car, my car is a scrap metal.
When you selling car with mods, you telling people that I mod and race my car, that is all they see. So going back to stock is important in order to get best price. It's very difficult to sell your car because of the mods, most of the people that mod their cars want to mod them their own way.
So IMO find used cats, put them on. Sell HFC for profit.
Dealer will rape you on a price, private seller is a better option.

Or better yet. Keep the G. I had mine for 11 years and 202000k miles. Any G37 is 300 times uglier than my G35 and soon most of corvetts will be slower than my G.

yeah lol this^ you made an extremely poor purchase in the beginning. you were stuck right behind the proverbial 8ball right off the bat. you are going to get heavily shafted on the sell

You will probably not break even, maybe 50% depending how you sell it.
You might be able to get away with 10k on private sale to someone who either doesn't know the value or likes the car that much.

So... you have a 10 year old car (minimum) with a few accidents listed on carfax, 118k miles, aftermarket exhaust parts, a check engine light for a few sensors, and you're wondering why dealerships are only offering you $5k for a trade? I'd say that's a generous offer from the dealership. If you want to change cars this often, look for better deals up front.

These cars don't hold value well at all. They might be bottoming out, but spending almost $14K for a 100K mile G35 is pretty damn high.

Put the car back to stock (as much as you can) and you might get $7-7.5K for it.

a year ago the going price was around 12-14k depending on condition. Also I checked my price I paid it was 12.5k actually . But either way I definitely am more aware now of this type of situation now obviously and know how to avoid it . Being that this was my first "real car " ( had a cheap college beater previous) .

Some people suggest taking it back to the same dealer I bought it and in their eyes they will see it as a clear profit if I take it back to them .. Basically giving them 4-5k to use the car for year ? Is this logical and likely to happen ?

Can you really call this modded ? It's not even dropped lol ...HFC , bumper and tint , Slap my stock wheels and it's good to go ? lol

Accidents was both to rear left quarter panel and bumper one needing to be towed I believe .

And reason why i want the G37 .. Interior is on a whole new level . I have no aux cord which drives me crazy lol just minor things but I feel the 37 will meet my needs for a while until I get more money and get the GTR fever lol ..

Doesn't have to be modded...it just needs to look like it was.


Clear corners, debadged, modded grill...all signs the owner was into modifying.


Modded cars really only appeal to a small niche group of drivers. The general car-buying population has been told to avoid such cars. So really you are narrowing down the group of people who would buy such a car.

I tend to follow the "don't buy modded" cars rule as well, and if in the market for a coupe, i'd look at the visual mods you've done and skip right over it looking for a clean, stock coupe instead.


Despite all that, that is a nice, clean looking coupe though.
