6mt vs. auto, couple of q's

Hey guys, what's up...right now I drive a '93 Accord 5spd but I really want a G, more specifically, an '03-04 4dr with the stock body kit in white. What I want to know is, should I sell the Accord and spend more to get a 6mt, or keep the Accord and spend less on an older auto? I want to have an MT car one way or another...and the little $$$ I can get for the Accord (even with the mods) is probably worth the difference between the old AT and newer MT. However, at the same time if I keep the Accord I can turbo it for dirt cheap and retain value/miles on the G and basically baby it. I don't need the sports package or navi as I'll get the 350Z suspension and something aftermarket down the line...

Anyways, it's all speculation at this point as I need to finish saving up for the down payment...but I'm just curious as to which route you would take. Is the manual worth the extra $$$$, esp. considering I have a Honda?

I don't think anybody can answer that question for you. It's really a matter of personal preference. If you want something manual-esque, the '05's have a better auto tranny with rev matching downshifts that makes it a bit better.

Personally, I doubt a 93 accord motor would last long with a turbo since it hasn't had one until now and everything is a bit more fragile than it was 13 years ago so I'd trade in the Accord and get the manual.

Get the 06' 6MT. You'll neglect the Accord anyway (with or without the Turbo). Enjoy yourself and don't worry about the milage.

once you drive the G, you wouldn't want to go back to your accord. if you think you can afford it then go ahead and get it.

many people have gotten the auto and regretted it. I would say go for the 6mt.

It's always nice to have a beater to drive around, as long as it fits your budget. If the 93 accord (worth prob about 1-2K) is stopping you from buying this car, you might want to wait a few more months until you have a real downpayment. No need to put yourself into heavy debt for a car. Just my 2 cents tho.

Yea. It's gonna be a while before I can get it...I just wanted to see how people felt about the auto/manual thing. I know in Altimas/Maximas it doesn't matter, they're equally fast...and the Maxima SE's 5spd auto has "tiptronic" and shifts like a champ. I was hoping it was the same deal...

automatics shift nice, but there's nothing compared to a Manual. There's something about shifting and the "feel" of driving. IMO, if you're a manual transmission person you'll get bored with an automatic.

Only way I'd get an automatic is if I lived in a place where there was a lot of traffic and manual would be too cumbersome.

get the 6 speed you won't regret it
