Bob Gainey's Daughter Missing
I just caught this on TSN. Bob Gainey's daughter was swept off a tall ship by a rogue wave and search teams are currently looking for her. She has been in the water 40 hours now, I sure hope they fine her. :(

That's very sad news for sure.....
She was on the Picton Castle out of Lunenburg NS |
Yes, I read that on the front page our paper this morning, although they did not release the name of the woman by then. That is a training vessel and she was one of about 28 volunteers.

Ah, that's a shame.........:o -- It doesn't look good that she be found after being adrift for 40 hrs or more. :)
Very sad, but damn, why on earth was she allowed on deck in such weather without a life jacket and a tether???????????? I know this ship, the Picton Castle and have been to her birth a few times in my travels to Lunenburg. Where I stay is not more than a stone's throw to Lunenburg Harbour which births the likes of the BlueNose II and the Picton Castle and many others..... I've often heard of those types of pro-active trips and wondered if I could do it too......but would be more selective as to when I went. Condolences to the family-- I think it'll be a miracle if she's found alive under the circumstances. C. :( |
^+1 Colin. I've been on deck one time she was here during a tall ships celebration.

Very sad story, I cant imagine the fear of being lost at sea much less after being swept off deck. Rogue waves are some scary sh*t and happen a lot more often than a lot of people think.
