Can't fill tank all the way?

I saw some TSB's about it but has anyone have any experience with that here in Canada, maybe more specificantly Ontario?

Which dealership did you go to?

I think my warranty is just about over but if it's a recall, do they still do it if your warranty is up?

So far it doesn't fill up all the way, just under the full line but don't want the problem to get worse as some of the US guys have had.....

Yup, I had that problem with my 05 G35X. They fixed it under warranty at Guelph Infiniti, no problem. They replaced the shutter valve. I mentioned I had the problem and they ordered the part right away.

Thanks "shutter valve" i'll remember that......

Agincourt in toronto, has done lots of warranty stuff for me and I have never spent any money there for service so they couldn't don't want to do anything for anymore, grrrr

i've had it done twice now on my car. the second time has been holding up better. get it done before your warranty is up... this is not a re-call problem. best thing to do is just print up the tsb and bring it with u to the stealership.

here is the tsb that i used: http://www.infinitihelp.com/Ownershi.../ITB05-031.htm

Happened to me as well last winter. Took the car to Oakville and they replaced the shutter valve, I think they said both left and right side, I assume that means we have two.

Seemed to be fine all summer until the cold weather hit because I am finding the same problem is coming up again this winter, not as bad as last year. Last year, the tank was full but the gauge was showing 8-10 litres below full but this year it's only about 3-5 litres.

I'll mention it to them next service visit but I'm not going out of my way to get it fixed as they have to keep the car for a few hours as the tank has to come out.

That's odd - there's only 1 shutter valve.

I had a different problem that was along the lines of the early shut off during fill up:

I went to my usual Sunoco a couple months ago and the pump would continuously kick out. took forever to get 1/2 tank. I mentioned it to the attendant and she said that they have had problems with the sensitivity of their pumps on occasion and said that she would mention it to the manager. I went to another pump at the same Sunoco and continued to fill up with out a problem. I haven't had a problem since - so I guess the attendant was right.

Another thing you guys might want to watch out for is overfilling the tank. I realize some are stating that the car doesn't fill the last bit, but I had an occasion once in the Maxima where the attendant (full serve) was intent on rounding up to an even dollar figure. The car threw a code and it was related to too much fuel in the evap cartridge - basically, the system thought that there was too much leakage. I never fill my car up beyond the first time the pump kicks out.

G-Force, are you sure it was the shutter valve?

Sounds like your issue was the Sending units in the Gas tank. I had the same problem about 2 years ago where it did not read my gas levels properly and they replaced my sending units in the tank. Been okay since!

Thanks for reminding me, it was the Sending units, right and left, not shutter valve.

Old age is catching up on me and my forgetfulness.:)

Had the same issue with my '02 Max. Couldn't top off the tank. Had to stop after first or second click on the pump.

As you say, the excess fuel ends up in the charcoal cannister which then pumps the raw gas into the engine which then runs rough and can generate a code.....
I subsequently looked in the owners manual for reference and it did mention that in there to not 'overfill' the tank.

Had the shutter valve issue on other late model rides but not any of my Infinitis yet.
