Help Kevin Help!!!!!!

Help Kevin, I need your expertise. ;) I had a minor fender bender tonight in my H3 with a Mazda hatchback. Apparently the teenaged girl wanted to play chicken with a 4000lb+ truck. I felt sorry for her as I only received some of her paint as a souvenir whereas she received a largly damaged hatch door where the corner of my bumper had greatly invaided her space. Apparently we were both backing up across from each other in the lot and I couldn't see her but she saw me. Her car was so small that I had no idea she was even there. I think she should have put her car in drive and pulled back into her spot when she saw that I wasn't stopping, instead of carrying on like she could just scare my truck out of the way. After about an hour the cop ruled it as "No-Fault" and we went our separate ways.

It kind of threw off my whole evening but whatever, sh?t happens.

Anyway, I now have a rear corner of my painted bumper that has a coating of white paint embedded into it. Kevin, is there any way of removing her gift to me from off of my bumper or does it have to be repainted? I don't want to have to get the insurance ho's involved so I'm going to have to fix it myself. I don't have any pictures yet but I just thought I would ask first.

I think I hear a detailing coming soon from GTAInDetail.

Hey Sammy - paint transfers are usually easy especially when they are on a painted part of your truck, and that sounds like what it is. Just grab your porter cable and some of that SSR2 or 2.5 on a white or orange pad and give it a go, odds are it'll come right off. It might take a few passes, so remember if you go with the SSR2.5 and an orange pad to finish down with the lighter polish.

If that doesn't get it all clay helps too.

Anything that doesn't come off is probably a scratch into the clear. If you have a hard time with it snap a picture and post it up.

Oh, and next time just drive right over the hatchback. :D

Sorry to hear of your minor f/bender, Sam.....
LOL, yeah, she's lucky you didn't drive right over her..... :D

Thanks Kevin, I'll give it a try as soon as it gets warm enough. It's too cold today to even try and look at it let alone buff it out.

Colin, you wouldn't believe the damage I could have done if I had been going any faster. I was barely moving as I was backing up and by the time I realized what was happening her whole tailgate was smashed in. I didn't even feel a thing when she backed into me. I think I really literally could have driven right over her car. It's pretty scary when you think about it.

Thank God it was the Hummer and not the G.

LOL... you think she'd know better than get into a "discussion" with an H3.
Hey Sammy.... maybe now's a good time to justify a NAV screen c/w backup cam :D

That's a good point Ian. I never even thought of that. I like the way you think. I need to think of a plan to convince my wife. Hmmmm.

Honey, think of all the stress and mental scarring that young girl will have to live with and it could have been all avoided with a simple install of about $2500. It's well worth it if you ask me. :D

Glad to help... :D

I was thinking the same thing. Hitting a child would be much worse.

Time for the rear-view cam =)

But on the serious note, I really hate people who like to "Scare" people in order to get into a spot or get the right of way...

Glad that you got your Hummer protecting you =)

Sorry for resurecting this thread, but I just found out that the other driver is making a claim with her insurance co. which is the same as my insurance co. so I have to split the claim with her because we have conflicting stories. (she says I hit her and I know she hit me). The ins co. says that there is no way that I can prove what happened unless there are witnesses so I guess I am screwed. Damn insurance companies. I tried to explain to her that if both cars are directly across from each other and both are backing up at the same time then how is it that the corner and outside plastic of my bumper area got hit and she got hit in the back of her car? She didn't want to hear any of it she just kept on asking me questions and ignoring everything I was saying. RUDE!!!

Now I have to figure out whether or not to have the insurance fix my damages as well since the claim is going on my record now anyway. I was going to leave it because it isn't that noticable.

Sorry for the rant.

Msedanman 04-16-2007 04:17 PM

Wow, Sam....sorry to hear of the issues you're having....

It seems that accountability means nothing to some people these days...

It seems that without witnesses you've got no recourse......

^+1

Yeah that's a shame. :(
Accidents without witnesses can be a tough pill when you're in the right. Some people will say and do anything to save a buck or their own skin.
