Clay bar FTMFW!!

That's all I have to say. I've been claybarring my car for the past 2 days off and on. It's unbelieveable how much my pearl paint is changing before my eyes!. I found it incredibly difficult to photograph the rail and other particles in my paint even with the DLSR.. but I'm taking before and after pics of things that I don't think it will get out. So far it has got everyting out I have tried!! I'll post my pics in this post when I"m done. Stay tunes friends!:thewave:

********UPDATE************

Ok, Please understand that it's not the easiest thing to photo these particles and I still have work to do around the emblems and badging but the difference is night and day.

That should about do it. With the Eshine order now in it's time to remove those scratches!! If anyone wants to give clay barring a try, don't be afraid!! It's alot of work but boy the result (espically for IP g's)

Captain Supreme Sausage 07-19-2009 03:56 PM

make sure you wax your car after the claybar, it will feel so much smoother and smell delicious:D

lekker_droom 07-19-2009 03:56 PM

LOL, I still get blown away every time I clay the car. The IP just pops like crazy after a good clay.

bomberman447 07-19-2009 04:10 PM

I cant believe you guys still like IP after claying it. :thewave:
I think it took me four hours last time to do and I still kept seeing spots it was making me crazy, but the results after were excellent. Just did a quick run over the other day before polishing and my paint is still shiney with the exception of bug splats from driving to and from radium this weekend, a wonderful drive i might add.

shilohap 07-19-2009 05:41 PM

I clay barred my G about two months ago and was amazed. It is a must have for detailing.

Sylvan lake V35 07-20-2009 01:50 AM

I am going to clay bar mine as soon as its on the road again.....if it ever runs that is.

Swivel 07-20-2009 09:34 AM

Good stuff, Adam. If you want the PC for this weekend, better grab it by Tuesday night since I'm gone after that til late Sunday.

PAIXAO 07-20-2009 09:39 AM

Which clay bar are you using? I have had great results with the Meguiars Clay Bar

rpm&my_G35 07-20-2009 09:41 AM

Anyone ever tried this Surf City Garage -Beyond Clay
My car is done every year using the conventional clay method. I am just curious if this product works. I saw them using on TV. I think it was on Two Guys Garage.

InTgr8r 07-20-2009 10:19 AM

Looks more like a polish to me... :dunno:

zeadlots 07-20-2009 04:02 PM

I'm using this:
Clay Bar From Canadian Tire

I might go for a rince at douglasdale carwash tonight after work so that I can keep going on it. Hit that rainstorm yesterday and picked up some dirt....

ttrank 07-20-2009 04:24 PM

I'm only 1/2 to 3/4 done. And trust me. My car is riddled with rail dust and horrible black and rusty containments.

Honestly, what is really amazing me is the scratches and scuffs that it's taking out.

I have a great picture of all the little scratches I had underneith my passenger door opener handle. It was like a mini skating rink. now? Well you'll see!

Strange discolorations.... poof....

Are you polishing now? It sounds like you are saying the clay is removing scratches and scuffs. In my experience, claying exposes more swirls, scuffs and scratches, usually masked by waxes.

zeadlots 07-20-2009 06:44 PM

I believe they just look like scratches...but are surface scuffs of...well, who knows what.... I can't think of what would be on people's hands that would make those marks but clearly they were there. Anyway.. Let me finish and you'll see what I was talkin about...

rpm&my_G35 07-20-2009 07:01 PM

That would make much more sense. Anyway, I always look forward to seeing a fresh detailed G.

zeadlots 07-20-2009 11:05 PM

The claying is complete and I'm beat.. I feel like karate kit with the dam wax on wax off rubber arms... No point in taking pics yet since there is clay residue all over the car and I'm not equiped to get it all off tonight.. I'm going to try tomorrow or the next day depending on my time. Woot, no more rust particles or crap in my paint!

InTgr8r 07-21-2009 08:17 AM

wow.... you're our resident clay champ.
She must have been really embedded with crap too spend that kind of time on it.

lol... your rubber arms must be aching today.

zeadlots 07-21-2009 11:17 AM

It was really bad. The guy I bought it from in SOCAL must have lived close to the rails or something. It was like orange flake. And I didn't even do the front spoiler of the car.... too many rock chips. All I know is there are still going to be some spots that I need to hit some more.

Does anyone know what works best to get that clay residue off of your car? I was just going to use my OCTOsham-thingy!

Octosham-thingy!

Swivel 07-21-2009 11:23 AM

^^ I just washed mine after claying. :dunno:

You should get one of those mitts, though. And wear it, MJ-style. To work.

You coming by for that PC tonight?

You can use a spraybottle containing a 50-50 mixture of Isopropyl rubbing alcohol and distilled water. You dont need to use much. Just a light mist like you would a quick detailer and wipe down with a MF towel.

zeadlots 07-21-2009 12:04 PM

I don't want to go out looking like a poodle, You might run me down when I see you! As for the PC maybe I should pick it up. I placed the Eshine order this morning but he said it's likely to arrive next week...but possibly this friday.

zeadlots 07-21-2009 08:56 PM

Everything has been added to the original post. Please check out the pics and feel free to comment!!!

Garnet Canuck 07-21-2009 09:32 PM

Awesome before and after shots. Claybar FTW!

Now get a good sealant or carnuba on it to protect it and make it "pop" even more. :)

GD-Up 07-21-2009 09:37 PM

Wow man, those are some impressive results!!
~monkey see..money do~

GEE35FX 07-21-2009 09:40 PM

Excellent choice of products. https://g35driver.com/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif

PB's EX Sealant looks fantastic on light colored cars so you're gonna love it. Both Menzerna IP and MP polishes are awesome. I use them both very frequently. PowerGloss has a ton of cutting ability but it sure dusts like a mofo. Have fun with your new products when they arrive, your G is gonna look awesome. :)

phat_ride_69 07-22-2009 01:33 AM

Daaammm Adam that's amazing...gonna have to get you to show me how its done!! I've got a white car that definitely needs to be clayed after looking at your before/after pictures.

Your cars looking awesome, whens the next meet??

rpm&my_G35 07-22-2009 09:08 AM

Nice Job! It's nice to see another car in the hands of a person who will care for it.

twin001 07-22-2009 09:11 AM

Nice, now that you are done with the clay bar you should polish, seal, and wax it. I like the list you have there, the Poorboys Sealant smells reeeealllly good!

zeadlots 07-22-2009 12:26 PM

I Can't wait for my supplies to get here. Sounds like my brother is going to order the new porter cable XP so I will have full time access to detailing equipment.... This might just turn into an obsession! UH OHHHHH!

Trust me, it will! ;)

zeadlots 07-22-2009 03:51 PM

PCxp is on the way too.... :)

Locksmith 07-22-2009 04:54 PM

Nice job.

thescreensavers 07-22-2009 06:26 PM

haha, yea when i first got my car someone showed me what swirls are and stuff, (*******s) Since I had a black car it really popped out so I had to take care of them they were loling in my face! I just had to.Now I bought about already 400 bucks in detailing stuff lol. But my car looks awesome :)

That reminds me I got to wash it for Saturday :)

G15 07-22-2009 06:50 PM

To me it's not a cost, it's an investment. :)

Greekboy115 07-22-2009 10:57 PM

Of course it is an investment! One that will def be keeping a smile on your face down the road. I don't even want to think about how much detailing stuff I have purchased in the past month alone.

zeadlots 07-23-2009 04:07 PM

I can't stop touching my paint...lol Flames all you want. Everytime I stop at a light and touch just above the window rubber.. It's so smooth. Like silk. I'm addicted. I need help. I get out of my car when I get into the garage and I can't help but run my fingers across the panels......

Osa713 08-07-2009 01:25 AM

after reading this thread i am a believer in claying. I finished mine today and the results were excellent

zeadlots 08-07-2009 10:37 AM

That's awesome OSA. The difference for me was so night and day that I ended up getting $380 worth of detailing equipment and polishes... Now my journey has turned to removing the scratches and hazing from the pearl. It's so addictive!
