My mechanic BO'd my car.. ODOUR CONTROL NEEDED!!

Ok Guys... I love Seinfeld but not enough to make up a story based on one of the episodes.. which is almost exactly what happened to me, except it was my Mechanic and not the vallet.

When i first saw the Episode, I laughed, didn't believe that an ODOUR can take over the car like that... but guess what guys? I GOT SERVED :(

This all started happening a few months ago... when I brought the car in for a brakejob / fluid check / AC refill etc. basically a tuneup to make sure everything was topped up.

mind you, when i bought the car, one of the first things i loved about it was that new car smell (car wasn't used much)

after I picked up my car, i had this foul smell coming from near the driver side.. i thought maybe it was just a temp. thing.... it would usually start to smell when the car's interior gets very warm... after spraying, deodourizing, cleaning, the SMELL IS STILL THERE!!

Everytime, i would convince myself that the odour was TERMINATED! :coolio:, but it kept coming and til this day... I have that odour.. it smells like sour milk aka. a bum... someone who hasnt' taken a shower in a long time..

of course, i try my best to cover up the odour whenever i expect company in the car but that doesnt' change the fact that , i got the case of the BOs.

and noooo its not me! i would sniff the steering wheel, the top of the door panel while driving..... no odour. (others on the road probably thought i was on crack lol)

I DUNNO WHERE THIS ODOUR is coming from... but I hope someone can help by pointing me in the right direction. thanks...

That was the last time i went to that mechanic.

did you try taking a whiff of your seat? center arm rest? maybe he took a nap in the backseat, nekid. or took a small dump and let it fall through the cracks, under the seat.

When was the last time you changed the car's interior air filter ??

t7n7 Aug 20, 2009 05:16 PM

damn clown..

its not the seats or the armrest... the backseats are in a much better shape as well.. and i can usually smell it when i have the windows down and when the air flows by..

t7n7 Aug 20, 2009 05:18 PM

I haven't changed it lol... but i'm only at 80000km.. would that cause this odour? but why all of a sudden after the trip to the Mechanic? i will do everything in my power to get rid of this smell. Keep the ideas flowing guys.. thanks

A list of stuff that I will be checking next:

incabin air filter.

Might have been his sweat dripping on the manifold and its burning the BO smell through your vents. Haha!

GEE35FX Aug 20, 2009 05:21 PM

That would be my first job, change the in cabin air filter, it should be changed every couple of years.

or he might of left some man-chowder :dunno::D

you could always buy a squash air freshener.. they are not overpowering but definitely make your car smell fresh no matter what smell your car has.

you may also have a dead rat chillin on the incabin filter. it's happened to some people on the forum.

80000 kms is a lot if you've never gotten the cabin filter changed. I changed mine when I got the car at 60000 kms. I'm pretty sure the previous owner never changed it because:
1. It wasn't in any of his invoices
2. The thing was NASTY looking.

And changing it sure made a difference. The air coming from the vents never smelled, but it felt dusty and mucky and now that's gone after the change.

Try CarQuest, they had the best price around. I picked up a charcoal one for around $25 which is a steal.

hey thanks... i'll give the cabin air filter a shot....

and regarding the air freshners, i do not want to disguise the odour, i want to EXTERMINATE the damn odour colony!!!!!!! * dun dun dun...*
