Greetings all,

In an attempt to get the most information possible on purchasing a used G35, I'm inviting you all to provide your input as I take my journey from "noob" to "less noob".

I have done a good chunk of reading through this forum already and I will try to ensure my questions are original and of the non-searchable variety.

I called my bank yesterday to discuss pre-approval for a car loan for $20k in order to purchase a used car. I told the credit specialist that the car I was looking at was a 2007 G35 coupe with 75,000 kms. After some other info, she told me their value on the car was between $16-$21k. So, my first two questions are as follows:

1) Is $16-$21,000 a fair/expected price for a 2007 G35 coupe with 75,000kms?

2) What is a fair amount that I can hope to negotiate down on a used car in today's market? $500? $1000? $3000?

Granted, condition of the vehicle is an obvious factor, but if I were to walk into a dealership could I expect to talk them down to a figure in this range?

An avg 07 G35 Coupe will run you about $23k. I would say the low end is about $19k and could go as high as $28k depending on condition, options and who is selling.

 

I'm assuming that the $23k is after taxes? It's pretty slim pickings in the GTA at the moment but there are a few that have caught my eye. I'm trying hard to find a 2007 for $20k after taxes, but if the price/condition is right, I'd look at another year.

 

The prices I mentioned are before HST. I don't think you will find a 07 G35C, with 75000km, for $20k including HST. Not a very good one anyway.
I just had a look on Autotrader and as I suspected, the lowest asking price for what you are looking for is $19,999+HST. Most are asking $23k and the stealerships are asking for $29k.

See, that's where the second question comes into play. If I can negotiate down to $18k flat, then it comes to just about $20k even after HST. That's a $2000 difference, which is why I was putting the question out there to see if any one else has some input on how much "wiggle room" dealers have on these.

I've found nice 2006 and 2005 models, but I'm weary of a model the older I go down the line. Justified?

I agree Ian. This is why I also said "not a very good one anyway".
OP - You won't find an accident free, good condition 07 G35 Coupe around here for $18k.
If you are willing to take a chance then it may be possible. If you find one be sure to have a trusted mechanic go over it with a fine tooth comb and get a 3rd party report.

I have an 07 G35x with 50,000km which I wouldn't sell for less than $26k+HST and the coupes cost more.

 

Thanks for the input. Given my $20k ceiling, what year coupe would you recommend I look for instead of the 2007? I'll still keep an eye out for a 2007 deal too.

My girlfriend's father is an uphostry/glass man and their family has a long time friend who runs a shop out my way. He's done all their car work for them and my girlfriend has told me that his services are mine if I need them so that's a big help.

 

I wouldn't rule out an 07 yet but you stated an 07 with 75,000km. If you go a little higher, maybe +100,000km you will have better luck in your price range. 120,000km is nothing for these engines if properly maintained. Other parts may need replacing though.
If you really want to stay in the 75,000km ballpark then just go a couple years older.

 

My searching has been governed by rules that I've been reading and hearing from other people: search for cars with 20,000km/year use and that the best finds are usually off lease. I'm not against anything else so I will keep on it.

Banks use Canadian blackbook to value cars, the range is most conservative to most liberal. But not all the time it is accurate. if it deviates little bit from what the bank is offering,there is still chance for approval but probably an approval from a credit adjudicator bank works with(they are senior credit officers)

i think the price should be around 20-23k , for the 2007, even 2003s still go for 15-16k if they are under 100k, GL

 

Ya, I thought their price was fairly conservative which is why I brought it up here. Thanks for the help.

I've looked at older models and found the following:

- 2005/75,000kms/$18,900
- 2006/94,100kms/$17,995
- 2005/121,000kms/$16,995

Again, test driving and inspections are obviously needed, but do these prices seem more realistic for their respective years and kilometers aquired?

 

If I knew how to drive stick, this would certainly be an option for me. Crud.
