We've got block heaters!
I read a thread on freshalloy about a block heater being standard on the G35 - and checked my sedan - yep, there is one with the socket hidden in the lower front intake on the drivers side. It's fun seeing the Southern US people asking what a block heater is and why they would need one. Anyway, after the recent cold snap here in Toronto I'm glad to have it.

Re: We've got block heaters!
I use mine daily lately , just for a hour to pre-warm. Gives quicker heat inside, and helps gas mileage too. Helps the motor lubricate faster on those frosty morns. Enjoy

Re: We've got block heaters!
So I should wake up and plug it in and by the time i'm ready to leave the house, it should be good enough? Where does the wire stick out, the front grill?

Re: We've got block heaters!
Yeh man, looking at the front of the car on the right down low in behind the bumber, stick your hand thru and fish around you'll find the plug end. Like I said maybe an hour is all it takes in the morn--- makes the world of difference....... Later

Re: We've got block heaters!
I have a timer that starts a couple of hours before I leave in the morning. I just have to remember to plug it in when I park at the end of the day. I had to add a block heater to my wife's MPV - it was nice bonus to find the G came with one already.

Re: We've got block heaters!

Re: We've got block heaters!
That's a nice touch Martinss with the timer. Saves going out in the morning to plug in.
Sljer- You won't damage anything by leaving it plugged in. It's just a waste of energy that's all. Gsedanman-Garnet Fire Sedan('till Jan) |
Re: We've got block heaters!
damn, now it sure is nice to live in a house with a power outlet in a personal garage. Can't do that since I am living in a condo:(

Re: We've got block heaters!
Its best to use the block heater no longer than 4hrs max. Like
it was previously said, after that is just a waste of energy. Get a timer( Can. Tire has them). My last car had a block heater. What a blessing to have when it gets really cold out . Its not nice to have frozen fingers at 6am!!! I used it(the block heater) for nine years without any problems and I still have the same timer. I haven't used the block heater on the G yet. It's only been cold here in T.O for a couple of days and I'm using synthetic oil so there hasn't been any problems mechanically. Just a few new rattles here and there. 35BILLS 2003 G35 Sedan Twilight Blue w aero/prem pkg |
Re: We've got block heaters!
Hey Stalker, Just get a long (good quality) extension cord and run it out to the car. Your car will love you for it. hahaha

By the way, just got the call from the body shop, my car is done, gonna pick it up tomorrow.... G35: Black with Willow/Canadian Premium Package. Z3: Silver with Red leather interior. |
Re: We've got block heaters!
I think I will try the block heater as well. I just have to remember to unplug the wire before I back the car out. LOL

Re: We've got block heaters!

Re: We've got block heaters!
You should start using the block heater at work at -10 or -15 if they turn the power on. Easier on the engine in general and slightly better gas consumption since the engine isn't quite so cold. Do you pay for your parking spot? If so, all the more reason to be kind to your engine.

Re: We've got block heaters!
It's been great using the block heater during these frigid days. I almost forgot I had it plugged in this morning. Pulled halfway out the garage before I remembered.
Though it's a great feature, I can't wait not to use it again. |
