Canadian dollar...
There's almost a 20k difference in buying the same car from a dealer in this country than from the states...What would the tax be on a car bought in the states???

I don't know the #...but my friend bought his S2000 at the state...it do charge lower...but you have to do all the custom thing...

Interesting find. ;) |
When I moved here I investigated importing my 2003 G35 coupe (I moved in June '05), it would have cost about $7,000 so I sold it and just bought a car here.
I think with the dollar the way it is right now you would just about break even on a car under 50k USD, you might save a few thousand. If the dollar stays the way it is I am sure we'll start seeing Canadian prices on cars (and other items) price adjusted. Canadian sales of major items are suffering as a result of the 20-30% markup right now. |
Wasn't there something about this a few years ago. American dealers were buying the cars here and then selling them down there. The Manufactures found out about this and then denied warranty claims on the cars.
I agree that with the dollar doing so well, we should see the prices come closer to par, but that's not happening! |
MSRP in US is approx. $33,000 USD and in Canada, $47,000 CDN for base coupe.
With a 1.15 exchange rate, US car is about $38,000 CDN. Add in about $7,000 CDN to bring it in according to previous post, and it's about $45,000 CDN. Assuming this is all before tax, not much of a savings is it? Probably not worth the hassle of going to the US and doing all the paperwork etc... Unless...the $7k to bring it in includes tax then it's a good deal. Now you are comparing $45k versus $54k including tax. Make sense? |

As for the prices changing to reflect the current dollar - the last time there was a price adjustment was the 70s. It'll take a couple more years of 1.10% or less to have the prices adjust accordingly. Unfortunately right now we're just getting screwed. :) |
Are we getting screwed or are the Americans getting away with a weak US dollar for now.
Isn't it CDN$ to Yen that needs to be compared b4 we see any change?? |
