k now the questions i have that maybe someone on this forum can help me with.

1. Since i'm taking out my stock radio and putting in a double din. Will i need to buy an audio amp for the stock sound system? If so i want to buy something cheap but just enough to run my speakers.

a) if i do need an audio amp then what kind of connection will it have for audio input? Since im going to use a computer for audio output will i need some kind of adapter from computer to amp?

If you are going to be using the after market radio harness to help plug into deck then all you will have to do is make sure that you tag the Factory amp turn on and your stock bose will come right on with no problems. Ill try to find out what color that it is for you. I didnt do a car pc so i dont know how much help i can really be but feel free to ask anything at all.

If i can still use my stock amp/speakers thatd save me a lot of money.

Are you sure the stock amp could still be used without the stock head unit?

Yep someone from this forum told me about the METRA 70-7551 wiring harness. It seems like it basically replaces the wires on the back of the stock amp and gives me 4 rca inputs that i can then use to get sound from my computer.

EDIT: (Looks like im wrong.. I need something that will connect directly to the stock bose amp that accepts input to the amp.. err)

updates?

the1cyrus Mar 6, 2009 06:33 PM

Hey Eldgebroni, just trying to figure out the sound system wiring atm. I'm hoping to use the stock amp and speakers and not have to buy a new system. METRA 70-7551 might still work.. getting some mixed info tho.

Hoping to also see someone sell a 04 double din with ac controller while at it. If anyone has one let me know :D

So far the 125W power supply seems to be enough which is good because there's a 120w dc source in the bin between the seats. If i can use that then it will make things a bit easier when im installing everything.

I'm doing the same thing on my 05 (second time) On my previous G35 I had it set up with aftermarket radio and amp but now I'm going without a radio at all since I have my aircard I usually listen to all my stations via the internet. I have them all programmed into the Digital FX skin using RoadRunner.

nice.. 8.4"!! that must be a custom double din. I might be too big though lol..

i went the other way around bro and got the jdm kit first lol but goodluck to both of us, it seems most of the diys available online opt for the cubbyhole install or have aftermarket amp/spkrs instead :( can anyone confirm what cyrus found about the METRA 70-7551 and the stock bose? :)

hpric Mar 25, 2009 03:23 PM

why don't you just bypass the stock bose and go with a better four channel amp? its only a matter of time before you wanna upgrade anyway

the1cyrus Mar 25, 2009 04:24 PM

hpric your right i could but i can always do that later. For now the stock amp works fine and i dont really see why people dont like the sound system. Sounds perfect to me but then again i wouldnt know what another sound system would sound like. Just know that i can hear the music just fine. Maybe if i cranked it up high it would sound like crap but i never do that anyways. For now a new amp would just be more money that i could spend on something else more important. it looks like the stock amp could be tapped into to work with the carpc just fine.

Ill start buying all the parts for this project as soon as i can find a rainless weekend and time to do it all. Ill post pics as soon as i start.

Well I got everything installed and for the most part everything is working. I'm having some issues with USBs coming out of hibernation so I troubleshooting this today but it should be a quick fix (bios update should take care of it)
