PC in Car installation

Aurora PC at www.gnetcanada.com has PCs and flipdown monitors that can be installed in Cars. See website. I have a Premium with Nav coupe. I was wondering if you can connect a PC to the NAV as the monitored or has anyone installed a PC in their coupe?

Re: PC in Car installation

You installed all of that for around $1500?? The computer, touch screen monitor and the GPS?? I didn't get the NAV either but wish I did. If I can install all of that for around $1500, I'll surely be building a computer!!!

Re: PC in Car installation

no problemo greg.

Kyle:
That isnt my car. Although i will be building a similar system after this summer is over.
I've done calculations and it can be done for 1500 IF you do it yourself.
the screen that the guy there uses is only like $200
GPS, $250, so that leaves $1050 for the PC and the rest of its parapherals, man, you can build a really sweet computer for $1000!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You just have to keep in mind what the weather is like in your area. If you have brutal winters then you might need to get something special when it comes to processor cooling

Re: PC in Car installation

I would think a brutal summer would be more difficult to cool off than a brutal winter....

Yeah, with a brutal winter, you'd think that you'd be able to [i]OVERCLOCK that sucker!!

Re: PC in Car installation

heh see thats where your wrong, heat isnt an issue because the trunk is sealed from the sun, and trunks just dont get that hot...and plus there are lots of cpu's out there that can run just fine in the heat, most can run at 60C w/ no problem!

however in the winter...there can be moisture issues with the cpu being freezing cold and then all of a sudden heating up, this causes condensation and we all know the equation water+electricty= fried components

Re: PC in Car installation

Ahh yes. Then you must take a page out of the book of the yoyo's that refridgerate the CPU with freon. Insulate, insulate, insulate.

Not many refrigerated units out there. Most are using water coolers and a few with peltiers. But yes, I forgot about condensation, especially for those of you in humid climates! Usually never gets too bad up here in Oiler country.

Re: PC in Car installation

RamboRami,

The screen the guy uses is a touch screen and I think it's around $500. Can you direct us to where we can find it for $200. I am gonna try to do something similar but taking out the dash looks like a lot of work. If anyone has any tips please post them.

Thanks

Re: PC in Car installation

I'm simply going to mount a laptop in my trunk. On cold nights I'll just bring it inside. A laptop may cost a little more than building a desktop for the trunk but there are many advantages to have a laptop

Re: PC in Car installation

Does anyone know of any other websites or forums that talk about installing a PC in a car? I plan on doing this soon and would like to see other installations and opinions on different equipment

Kyle:
there are some disadvantages to a laptop though...
1) price
2) they suck (slow+crappy durability)
3) Cant power it on/off remotely like with a desktop you can get a powersupply from here: http://www.opussolutions.com/
