foggy headlights

there seems to be a lot of "stuff" thats inside my headlights or it looks like it. it's just really foggy or cloudy and i can't get it off when i wash it from the outside . . did water or anything else happen to get into the inside of the headlights or am i just not scrubbing hard enough?

Re: foggy headlights

I would go back to the dealer, sounds like the headlights are not sealed properly.

Re: foggy headlights

Some have posted that what looks like fogginess on the inside of the headlight is actually on the outside and can be removed using something like Mother's Plastic Polish.

Re: foggy headlights

You should be able to buy it anywhere you normally buy automotive waxes and polishes. Just call around. There are probably other brands you can use as well. Even the plastic 'scratch remover' stuff you use on sport visors (like hockey visors) should work.

try novus plastic products. It comes with a 3 stage kit, and it removes scratches on plastic products.

Re: foggy headlights

Another good product is 3M's clear plastic polish. Use that to polish them up, then use the detailing spray to keep the shine. My old car had a problem with improperly sealed foglights, so I know what THAT looks like This isn't it (90% of the time).

I think if there was a seal problem, you would be seeing condensation in there too, like the old "sealed beam" headlamps would do if there was a crack. I'd be willing to bet what you are seeing is some factory defect.

GeoBau, where do I get some of that stuff? I can't seem to find it.

Re: foggy headlights

I got the polish at AutoZone, and the detailing spray at Napa, I believe. Give your local Home Depot or Lowe's a call, too, as they sometimes carry it. I know it's available online, as well. good luck in your search, and let me know if you still can't find it,

I have the cloudy headlights too and it is NOT on the outside. I tried Meguire's plastic polish and it did nothing. The cloudiness is definitely on the inside. I do not have any condensation in there so I don't know if it is a seal problem. Anyone else experiencing the cloudy headlights???

BTW I have had my B/O sedan for about 1.5 years it has 22k miles.

Re: foggy headlights

My car is about 3 weeks old, and I've noticed what looks like a water spots on the INSIDE of one of my headlight fixtures. I've replaced my fog/wedge bulbs, but that shouldn't have anything to do with it right? If I go to the dealer with this issue, are they going to give me a hard time once they find out my lights are changed?

The dealer always has the option of giving you a hard time but they still have to show that what you did caused the problem.

Re: foggy headlights

Just put the original bulbs back in before you take it back, I know that's probably a pain, but so is fighting with them!
