Can't get my rims clean!!! Help!!
I have high polished Iforged rims with a 4" lip. My brake dust sometimes cakes on there and the rims have been getting harder and harder to clean. I didn't take them off for the winter because I figured I don't drive in the snow and since it barely snowed I was lazy and thought I'd keep them on. Anyway, the salt I guess has made it more dirty now and the rims look disgusting!! The hand car wash place can't even get them clean. I tried Mother's Polish and that won't get it clean. They look absolutely disgusting. The rims are clearcoated, but the lips aren't. What can I do?? I need to use a wheel buffing machine on these??? I hope they aren't ruined. Parts of the rim are black!!
Update: I bought something like the Mother's Ball, only the Mother's was more of a foam and this one is more like a cloth material. It took me more than 3 hours today to do my back rims only and they are shiney again!!!! A lot of elbow grease, rubbing, polishing, and using hte machine and I still have to go back over my back rims. But at least I know that they will come clean and shiney again. A detailing place I went to told me they were shot. A wheel guy told me he had to strip them and polish them again. That wasn't the case. I would never have been able to do it without this wheel that goes in the drill. I forgot the exact name of it, I will check it later and post for other people.
Simple formula to maintain a clean wheel.
I use Wheel Wax to help reduce brake dust build up. Use a quick detailer that is clear coat safe to gently clean the wheels in between washing. I normally quick detail the wheels 2 to 3 times in the middle of the week, and always wash on the weekends. Keeping them clean in between washes will help a great deal.
