First Exterior Detailing
 

Y'all:

Completed my first Poorboy's detailing today. My car is new, purchased in January, but I'd suffered a monster bird poop mark in the first week that left a mark nearly 2 inches in diameter, even though I cleaned it off immediately. The weather was very nice here in Dallas, so I had an opportunity to fix the bird poop mark and also to apply EX.

My car was very clean (I'd washed it last weekend) so I used some QD to clean the dust off the car. I then made a pass with Pro Polish on the bird mark using the PC with a gray finishing pad set to 5. Hmm, a little reduction, but not much. Made another pass with PP with the PC set to 6, a little more reduction of the mark. A third pass was made, still more reduction of the bird mark, but clearly, needed something a bit stronger. I then used 3 passes with SSR1 and that did the trick. I also had SSR2.5, but didn't want to try it, since this was my first experience with a PC. I QD-ed the area and got ready to put on EX.

I put on EX using a microfiber pad, dampened with water and rubbed by hand a thin coat of EX over the entire car. I let it haze for about 10 minutes (it being quite warm with about a foot of the car in sunlight, the rest in shade). My son and I then wiped off the car using microfiber towels and the result was truly stunning! I've never seen a car look as good as my G35 does now. And I haven't even put the 2nd coat on yet, or the followup coat of Natty's.

Total time was about an 1-1/2 hours. I'm one happy G35 owner! :)

ex, qd, pc, pp, ssr1 2.5, what does it all mean?

EX = Poorboy's EX
QD = Quick Detailed / Quick Detailer
PC = Porter Cable 7424
SSR1 = Poorboy's Super Swirl Remover 1
SSR2.5 = Poorboy's Super Swirl Remover 2.5

He is referencing specific detailing products and tools. There's a lot of detailing acronyms out there, it can be tricky to follow them all.

DI, do you know how hard it would be to get those porter cable pads onto a Mequires D/A, I know they are the same thing, but the Meg has the Velcro attaching pads.

That's a blue color? Wow, looks black to me. Must be the lighting. To bad they didn't offer that color w/ the 06's. All the blues were too light for my tastes then.

The color is mostly gray with a touch of blue; doesn't really match the name. Lakeshore Slate has more blue in it, but no "blue" in the name. ;)

That's a great writeup. Thanks for posting...I'll keep this post in mind if I ever need to remove a bird stain.

Hey Eddie! Remember I went to that Meguiars class with you? We were the only two black '06 sedans there. :D

Anyway, answering your question, it would take a little longer than the hook and loop system Meguiar's D/A uses, cause you have to stop, and pull out the wrench and unbolt it from the machine. Kind of a pain in the butt when you've got a rhythm going. I guess you could use the porter cable pads, but the question is...why?:confused2:

The Porter-cable 7424 is EXACTLY the same as the Meg one, therefore, you can buy a hook and loop mounting plate alone from Meguiar's ( ) and use any 6.5 velcro pads you want, whether it be from Meguiar's or somewhere else.

Just so you know, the Porter-Cable is currently on sale (Amazon has it for $129, no taxes, no shipping costs), it is defintely a consideration. Since I have a Meg one already (and they have a lifetime warrenty if you buy the Meg verson), I'm not in a rush to get one, but it would be cool to get another to give as a gift to my brother, so that we're not fighting over who gets to use it. (he always wants to work on his car when I'm working on mine):mad:

I have the Meg D/A, I just can't get all the light scratches out. I've only used it twice though. I'm using the Speed glaze 80, I think that maybe this isn't strong enough:confused2:
