Swirl and web marks - can't remove them
 

I've tried clay bar, Zaino and McGuires (sic) scratch and swirl removers. They just don't go away. I even had a detail shop polish the car and no joy. Is it time for a body shop? What's the answer?

Could you provide some pics if possible?

We need some further info from you...what types of swirl removers did you use?

Did you use a PC?

What colour is your car?( darker cars being harder to remove swirls)

Quite often, a body shop will not know how to properly detail a car. Try to find a local professional detailer. We have a automotive detailer listing and I see someone in IL, but not sure how far away he is from you.

Body shops often will use rotary buffers with products full of fillers. Come a few washes later or after a heavy rain, you are left with more imperfections that you started with. You will want to ask your detailer for references or see their work in action before pulling the trigger on one.

You may want to consider investing in the proper tools and products to tackle the job yourself. It wasn't clear if you were trying the Megs or Zaino by hand or with a buffer, or what products you were using and if they were the right ones for the job. The more information you can provide the better we can help.

none of the producst you used will remove swirling, you need a professional detail with a machine polisher to get rid of the swirls

Unfortunately, none of the Zaino products you used were designed to remove imperfections. Z-5 has some fillers in it, but nothing to remove swirl marks or light imperfections. Zaino's Z-PC would be the product designed to remove imperfections.

Consider investing in a quality buffer, such as the Porter Cable 7424 and some good abrasive polishes, like the Menzerna line up if you are trying to tackle this yourself. Tracking down a skilled professional detailer certainly could help you with your vehicle as well.

FILL not BUFF
 

I had the same problem on my G. After a hard summer of constant washes and spray details my paint was toast. Severe spider webbing and haze that was most apparent under fluorescent lights (ie gas stations at night).

Here is what I discovered, YOU CAN'T BUFF OUT SPIDER WEBBING!. The trick is filling the imperfections with multiple coats of wax/or polish. Similar to applying wax to an old kitchen floor.

This may seem excessive, but I applied seven coats of Zaino Z-5 and four coats of Z-2. Took about two days in a garage with a dehumidifier. The results were amazing!

I swear by Zaino, but have no reason to believe that multiple coats of any other high quality wax would not work.

Before I get flamed...

I personally could not buff out the spider webbing, but I am sure some people know how to do it.

I personally can't do a good job either, but there are definetely MANY talented people who can do so.
