Tint Removed = Rear Glass Damage

Tint Removed = Rear Glass Damage
I had my tint professionally removed. They used a product call Tint Off to get the adhesive off. Not sure what caused the damage (the tint adhesive or the Tint Off), but the window now has a chemical, "etched" pattern. Has anyone seen anything like this before?

Re: Tint Removed = Rear Window Damage
i used "tint off" to remove my tint and the only problem i have is getting all that glue off near the 3rd brake light.
i believe the directions on the tint off says to use a household window cleaner after all the glue is off. try that.
how did u get the rear deck off? is there a simpler way besides removing the seats?

Re: Tint Removed = Rear Window Damage
I've tried Windex, pure amonia, Tint Off, and Stoners.
I don't think the Tint Off caused this. It looks like it's a result of how the tint was put on the window (some sort of chemical reaction or water-spottint). None of the side windows have this problem. I took the vehicle to a glass guy and he said he had not seen this happen before (lucky me).
I had to removed the entire back seat.

It looks like some kind of delamination. As if there are two layers of glass with a safety sheet in between them. Isn't this how safety glass is made? Look at a high end car with polarized glasses and you can see that they all have something INSIDE of the glass, layered, like some kind of high pressure laminate.
Try scraping portions of it with a single edged razor blade. If nothing comes off with the blade, I'd suspect something inside the glass.

The glass guy said there shouldn't be any "coating" on the window. He had originally suggested the razor blade attempt, but then reconsidered. There would be no way to razor blade the whole window (with the defroster lines). Be that as it may, what the heck caused this????

Re: Tint Removed = Rear Glass Damage
That's what happens when "Tint Off" or other tint removal film is used. You need to use an ammonia based product now to clean the glass. It's a chemical reaction on the glass w/ the glue. Personally, I don't use tint removal stuff for this reason, so I can't really tell you what's the best solution to this.

I'm not sure I understand you post. Tint Off *is* an amonia-based spray. Are you saying that when these guys peeled the film off, there was an adhesive left on the window (there was-that's what they told me). That they then sprayed this Tint Off on the window to get the adhesive off, and in the time that the Tint Off was on the window, it caused the water spot effect?

Re: Tint Removed = Rear Glass Damage
Sorry for the confusion.........Tint Off is ammonia based, but the percentage of ammonia is relatively high compared to say Windex. Having too much ammonia could stain the glass if not cleaned properly or immediately. In addition, high ammonia based products could damage the trimmings, panels, and leather on a vehicle if not wiped off immediately.

Re: Tint Removed = Rear Glass Damage
So is it you theory that the water-spotting occurred when the the tint was removed? For example, the tint was peeled off and then the window was sprayed with Tint Off and left to sit like that for a while, say 20 or 30 minutes or maybe an hour. The person then came back to the car to wipe off the adhesive that had been softened by the Tint Off. The adhesive came off, but the Tint Off had left the water-spotting effect on the glass. Do you think that is how this happened? To me this theory makes sense because the window looked fine when the tint was still on. But this theory does *not* make sense because it seems that surely this should have happened to someone before.
Do you think that putting new tint back on will make the problem go away at all? Is this curable at all, in other words, is there anything that will get rid of these spots (except polishing the window)?
Also, is there a way to contact the manufacturer of the Tint Off chemical? I've tried to look online, but I can't access their website.

Re: Tint Removed = Rear Glass Damage
You could always go to the dealership (w.o your windows tinted) and tell them that your rear window is becomming more and more difficult to see out of. They will probably replace it with a factory OEM window under warranty. There is no way to know if you got a bad piece of glass from the factory, or if this is the result of a tint removal process. Your tint could have been hiding this "spotting" issue and it could have been getting progressively worse over time, never know.

Re: Tint Removed = Rear Glass Damage
I believe this is something that could be fixed. The glass seems to be temporarily stained. What you could do is try using some alcohol based glass cleaner to clean the glass.......try this w/ a microfiber and should solve this problem.
