Detailing tips for a newbie
 

Hi all...first thoughts: Man, you guys are nuts about the G, and that is a VERY good thing. I just picked up my G35x in Twilight Blue/Graphite leather a week ago and so far, every minute of driving is pure pleasure.

So, now that I have the car, I naturally want to keep it looking stellar. I know there have been numerous posts and there are alot of personal preferences about keeping the G looking good, but can someone provide me with a simple step by step procedure on what to do (and how frequently?) I've never owned a car this nice, so I really don't know how much care needs to go into maintaining the exterior. From what I've gathered so far, reading through these threads, I should do the following:

1) Wash car with some car soap and a MF or 100% cotten towel.

2) Clay bar with straight storkes, no circular motion

3) Wash car again.

4) Dry car

5) Wax car

Anything I miss? Am I doing anything out of order? Without trying to start a "war of preferences", what's the best wax to use? What's the best clay bar? What's the best "in btween washes" steps for maintaining the look?

All help would be greatly appreciated! I'll get some pics up soon.

That sounds about right, but if you want to remove your old layer of wax, you want to use Dawn liquid soap (original) instead of car soap.

1) Wash car with Dawn, dry with MF towel.

2) Clay the car, use something like Quik Detail from Meguiar's or Griot's Speed Shine on the car to glide the clay over the car. If you're using Zaino, you'd use the car wash concentrate.

3) Wash the car and dry with MF towel again.

4) Use wax/polymer on the car.

For best results on whatever you're using, you'll probably want to put more than one coat of wax/polymer on. I'm using Nanowax, and the 4 coats is making the car absolutely SHINE! Good luck with your car!!!
