My car's back!!

Yes sir, after 2 months of fuel debacles, traveling delays, dealing with ****ty companies, and Steven (r1forever) coming over constantly, my car is back in session. ****ty part is I am out of town the next 3 weeks Mon-fri!!

here's a little overview:
Started driving, and realized the car was misfiring bad, and would die at idle while driving, and was driving like it was on 4-5 cyls.

Steven came over and we checked plugs, tb, MAF, coils, etc etc.

limped it over to Jotech, they said i need to update ems, cause everything was testing fine. i didnt wanna do that.

So i took it to Chris Macallero. he checked the tune at Import Car Center (ICC) in grapevine. He said tune was fine, and said he would recommend just leaving it with ICC and they would look at it.

1 week later, ICC finds out it's the fuel pump and regulator. Replace fuel pump, goes out again. they said I needed a Fuel Return System.

ordered a FRS from one company, they dicked us around for 2 ****ing weeks, and no product. cancelled that order. ordered from another company (both companies are big sellers on this site), and they kinda dicked us around with sendin the kit in 2 parts and not telling us (delayed another 1.5 weeks)

got the kit installed, the car was running perfect. Mind you, we are in July now. hahha!

picked up the car 2 fridays ago, when it was rainy. almost home, (1 mile away), drove through a puddle i couldnt avoid at all (it was deep) car died and snapped a cog belt. wouldnt start. towed it to my house. over the last 2 weeks checked the maf, throttle body, the car started, but was running like ****.

yesterday, Steven came over with his MAF and TB, we unhooked all the pipes and SOOO MUCH water came out from the intercooler piping. Dried it out, plugged in his maf, and walla! the car came back to life. drove it around a little yesterday, and it's perfect.

So, 2.5 months, a couple grand later, i'm back, and hopefully for a while. keep in mind, this took a lot longer cause i travel most of the time!
the car is now gonna be driver in optimum driving conditions only.

Cliff notes: you dont need it, and i still dont know why i needed it a year later, but get a FRS.

/long fail story

^^^you'll forget by the time you get back in town...

Glad everything is fixed now...but I have to ask for those that may go FI in the future...rough estimate of how much all this cost please?

hound Jul 20, 2010 09:03 AM

good to hear.. it was a long hard road outta hell but, that's all behind you now.

ezpotato Jul 20, 2010 08:02 PM

yeah it sucks though, it really has killed my confidence in the car and being able to take it further than the dfw metroplex... but man is it fun to drive.

well, if you had got a FRS in the first place. that woulda been about 1k for install and parts. but i spent a LOT more than on diagnosis, towing, and guess work on parts.

but on the other hand, the car went through a lotta over due maintenance. spark plugs, filters, coil packs, cleaned the piping, the belts, etc....

so far into the FI (inc initial parts and install)= ~$7k

slap me? that's a bit harsh, don't you think?? ;) you really DO have some repressed anger towards Brit's don't you?!

Hooray! Now quit neglecting preventative maintenance, quit driving in sh!tty weather, and have fun with her!

Sucks that you have had so many issues ... not everyone has issues with their FI setup ;)
