Going to the track soon what should I expect to run?

Hey guys, I've had my G35 for a little over a month now and have been wanting to bring her to the track to see what she'll do. Its a bone stock 05 sedan automatic with sport package, 22K miles. Since its my first time going to the track with this car, my goal is at least a mid 14, but hope to do alot better. There isn't much documentation other than mag times for stock G35 sedans. I see between 14.2-14.7 as the range of ETs. Projected weather is going to be in the low 60s, calm winds (night time). My previous car was a road rocket 95 altima that did 17.8@78 MPH LOL!!

Im sure some of you guys ran your cars when they were/are stock, what times did you run?

Correct tire pressure, preload, no vdc, and good reaction time should be low 14's right?

Mid to high 14's would be my guess.

Thanks for the replies!

I have been practicing because I know its all in the launch...this car barely squeeks off the line, could be from the LSD though. I really hope to run 14s, 15s I would be very unhappy. What would be a good stock 60 foot time? 2.1-2.3?

A mid to low 2.1 60 foot is easy with the 5AT cars assuming the track has decent prep and you do the following:

1) Foot on brake
2) Foot on gas to the floor
3) Release brake after about 1 second

You should see the rpms jump to about 2400-2500rpms when you finally start rolling. At the track, my G will barely chirp a tire and it will get low/mid 2.1 60 foots all day on all season 215/55R17 rubber. On the street it's a crap shoot. It might chirp, spin for 10 feet, or fishtail all the way through 1st (which is fun, but slow).

Seeing that you're in the Midwest like myself and you're going to be running in warmer 80+ temps with higher humidity and at altitude (800-1500'), you're setting yourself up for dissappointment if you're expecting no less than mid 14s. I'd be estatic if you could run mid 14s in hot summer weather. I'd expect 14.6-14.8@94-96mph in the summer. All cars, especially NA cars, do not like the heat. My first time out in my stock G and in 70 degree weather, I saw high 14.4s with 2.1 60 foots. In the Fall, 50 degree dry air and with no changes to the car, I saw low 14.3s with 2.1 60 foots. Just a slight change in conditions was worth nearly .2 seconds in ET.

Yeah I was going to go earlier this year but havent had time to. The track I go to is in Wisconsin, about 715' above sea level. I am going next tuesday, so right now for the evening its forecasted 60 degrees, 70% humidity, most likely will change. There are so many factors!! Will just have to do my best. Thanks. Definitely be practicing some launches today!

There's plenty of good advice in this thread already. If the weather is as cool as you say, then I predict a 14.5@96 with a mid 2.2 sixty foot.

Make sure VDC is off, and don't let the auto shift itself. Others have observed that if left to itself, the auto will shift into 4th before the end of the 1/4.

If you're correct about the projected temps & track elevation, then the DA's should be anywhere near 1000-1500. Not bad, considering the last drag strip even I participated a few weeks ago was at ~4500 ft (DA's).

With good driving (launch), I don't think 14.4 is out of reach. If you want very low 14's, then you will probably have to wait till fall/winter, with good driving ofcourse.

Goodluck! Like I have always said, summer isnt the best time for personal best. But having a track @ mid 1000's DA's in July... consider yourself lucky. You have a track that should yield great results as compared to other tracks.

PS. Im assuming you're stock?

Thanks for your input. Will just have to see tomorow what happens. It will be a good time to practice for fall to run those lower 14 second passes. I'll post up some numbers after the track.

also if u have radtio tires go around the water and you dont have to spin them, thast what i did and i ran 14.675 @ 98.?? mph in 85 degree with humidity weather on 20's (the only reason i had my 20's on was because there was a car show before we tracked) thank god it cooled down and a breeze came in as the sun went down, i stil opened my hood after every run and cracked my oil cap to make sure no air was in there as i did a fresh oil change before my trip down to reaceway park englishtown,nj

I dont plan on doing a burnout with the water cuz its just not needed, I'm running the stock 235/45/18 Turanzas w/ LSD which I can barely break loose. Will depend on track conditions, typically this track has pretty good prep.

Just got home from the track!

So I ran my car tonight. I ended up making 14 total runs.

Temperatures tonight were in the mid 70s with calm winds.

My very first time running I pulled up to the line, VDC off, manual mode, no brake torquing, just pegged it and went. Ran a 14.820 @ 96.58 MPH with a 2.241 60'.

My second run was the best of the night with a 14.709 @ 97.10 MPH with a 2.191 60', and brake torquing.

Basically I was very consistant running 14.7xx's all night with 60' times in the 2.2 range. My best 60' was the 2.1 from my best run. My worst run was a 15.1 but that was because I had a passenger. Each time I ran with VDC off and in manual mode, and brake torqued each time except for the first run. I ran once in D, pulled a 14.8, so the manual mode I assume helps. I was not getting as good of traction as I thought I would. The track conditions could have been better.

Overall im pretty happy with my runs but want to see some better times come this fall with cooler temperatures. Thanks again for all your guys input!

Glad you had fun, and good trap speeds. But I'm confused by the ET's. The ET's seem a little high considering your traps and 60 foots.
