Went to the track with my 19's and I suck...

I just got from the track and need to dissect my time. My car weight 3700lbs with me with my Heavy Work VSXX 19's with 285 in the back. Weather is about 78F-80F with Humidity of about 70%. The 135i infront of me did worst than me and only trapped 100mph:dunno: I got embarrassed by the
New GTR who did a 11.9@116mph:icon18:

Here are some Videos... Sorry for the quality but I'll just explain what happened.. (My side of the story...lol)

My first run I did was with a Chipped 335i, I was so nervous that my palm where sweating and my heartbeat was pounding like crazy. The Chipped 335i did 13.26 with 60's of 2.17. I did so bad it's not even funny, I mis-shift at 2nd gear (You can hear from the Video) and got 14.7 with 60's 2.67. My trap was close to the 335i so I didnt feel bad. The Chipped 335i traped 106.5mph and I did 105.9mph. The stock 135i wasnt even able to break 14sec and only trap 103.

Second is with a Porsche Cayman.. It was a lady driving so it was real bad... She did 15.7@95.38mph. I did 2.45 for my 60' and 14.08@105.79 ( I was still nervous at that time)

3rd run is with the GTR and that thing is a beast off the line.. He did 11.9 and I only did 13.75@106.42mph with 2.26 60'.

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/43qvscs9if0&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/43qvscs9if0&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

4th run is with the Fbody Mustang and he did 13.9 but he also mis-shifted on 3rd. He was using DR's and got a good 1.8 60's and trapped at 101.82mph (He was low 13's all day). I got a 2.195 for my 60' and 13.58@106.48mph

The only clean run I really had were the last 2 runs.. but you can see my time and 60's keep improving on every run. I left around 8pm and that is when the temp really got better but I had to leave. I wanted to stay for one more run but my buddy really wanted to go home. Next time I want a lighter wheels and DR's and I have no doubt it is a 12 second car...

wondering if switching to a much lighter wheel will help me improve my Trap and ET. I had 3 runs and every run my 60' was getting better (2.67, 2.45, 2.26, 2.195) I think if I had a another run I can do much better with my 19's. I'm only pushing about 360whp-370whp (DJ) and wondering what is really hurting me. My 1/8 Trap is also very low so that that hurts me too...

Oh, I also have a Rear-Mount Turbo so heat soak was a little problem since I couldnt really shutdown the car for a long time else my turbo is going to get cold fast..:(

nice vids. that GTR is a BEAST for sure!!!

GreenGoblin 09-05-2008 08:53 PM

ya man the 60 foot times were getting better and better, its all about practice and seat time. Your reaction time also are not the best but that comes with time. What rpm are you leaving at?

FI'ed G 09-05-2008 11:26 PM

I try to start at 3000rpm but by the time I slip the clutch my rpm goes down to around 2400rpm. I think I can launch at around 3300rpm and slip the clutch more with more gas coz my car bogged most of the time. I'm just really upset with my Trap more than the ET. I know I can bring down the ET with lighter wheels and DR's and lower 60'.

GreenGoblin 09-05-2008 11:39 PM

ya that is what I was gonna say it seemed to bog down b4 it picked up

DaveB 09-06-2008 12:45 PM

What was the GTR's 60'. It didn't look terribly fast off the line. Lower 1.9s I'm guessing. That GTR probably has a little more in it (11.7s, maybe an 11.6).

^hard to tell but I don't think launch control was used. That would change things dramatically.

Skaterbasist 09-06-2008 01:17 PM

^ Considering how weak the other cars were running, im pretty sure Launch control was used. Conditions seemed less than ideal. And the GTR isn't an 11 second car without launch control.

RBull 09-06-2008 02:09 PM

^good point. I wasn't thinking about the time the GT-R posted or how the others were running. That's a pretty snappy time considering.

If launch control was used there isn't much that will match the GT-R's 60 foot so Dave B may have to have another look at the tape. Trouble is we can only see the GT-R for a fraction of a second with the focus on the G.

Seeing that the GTR does 0-60 in the lower 3s, it's 60' should be in the upper 1.7, lower 1.8 range. That type of launch is pretty brutal on a street suspension and I've other videos of GTR's launching and they were far more violent (butt squatting hard, front end coming up high). The video of the GTR launching shows a decent 60', but it sure doesn't look more than a 1.9 60'.

One thing we do know about the GTR is that it's prone to heat soak and Nissan dials quite a bit of power out when it's hot. It might explain the slower 60', ET, and MPH. In the right conditions (ie this fall on a NE track), I bet we'll see a few stock GTRs posting lower 11s@125mph.

FI'ed G 09-06-2008 02:57 PM

GTR slip
RT -.231
60' 1.85
330 5.116
1/8 7.78
MPH 94.05
1000 10.007
1/4 11.911
MPH 118.63

Can some one explain the relationship between ET and Trap? I have 2 conflicting answer about ET and Trap. Someone told me that as you go faster (Lower ET) your trap will be lower, but I also found something on the Web that say as you lower your ET the trap gets higher. Base on my times, the lower my ET the higher my trap. Also they say don't lower the tires pressure more than 5-10psi (Street Tires) of the recommended tire pressure else trap may suffer but I lowered min to 20psi and my trap seem to get higher a bit. Maybe it was my improved shifting that raise my Trap

GreenGoblin 09-06-2008 03:13 PM

ET is the overall time it takes to get down the track.
Trap is the mph that you cross the last laser.
The lower your ET the faster your trap will become.

That is what I thought coz that reflect my times.. So if Cut down my 60' to 2.0 and let say get 13.1 ET with my 19's and street tires, will I have a better trap?

That's incorrect.

In the same track, with the same car, you can get a 13.8 @ 100 and run 14.2 @ ~100 in the next run. It happens to me all the time (and everyone else I drag with).

I.E, drag radials have no significant impact on trap speeds, but it will surely help out their E.T.

Power/weight is usually what affects trap speeds the most. That is assuming, the person shifts correctly if they are MT.
