Drag race tips please

Sup guys, I went drag racing for my first time and I did bad. I need some tips, share some with me please to improve my time! Im 100% sure my car is capable to be in the 13s.

Heres a video of me yesterday(14.2). I rode my clutch on first gear, and didnt power shift. I think if I did both of those properly I would of been in the high mid/high 13s.

My question is, what RPM should I take off on? I read mixed suggestions from 3000 and 4000. Has anyone had any success tracking their G?

Also, am I suppose to dump my clutch on first gear? I noticed when I did that, my tires were spinning pretty bad and fish tailed a bit. Suggestions please :icon17:

Go easy on me, it was my first time haha

Pretty sure you could pick up a couple tenths with better shifting. No need to bounce off the rev limiter.
What were your 60' times? MPH?

60 was 2.1
1/8 was 9.2 @ 78 mph

14.2 was at 98

R/T can use work, don't be afraid to red light once or twice to get the hang of it. Fixing that R/T will make a great difference. I was always told to put the hammer down right when I see the 3rd light flicker on.

Yeah my friend who was with me told me to start as soon as the 3rd light pops since green comes real quick right after.. he did that and got a .1 R/T.. mine was .8 on this :(

Reaction time has no effect on ET. In a bracket racing situation, yes it could play a factor on getting that win light or not, but the ET and MPH will be the same.Dude couldve sat at the light for 10 seconds, but still wouldve ran a 14.2 @98.

And you said it was your first time, so dont beat yourself up over it. Get out there and practice your launch, dial in the shifting a bit better, as I said before no need to bounce off the rev limiter. Try to run 1/4 tank of fuel instead of a full tank to save weight, maybe pull out the spare and jack to save a few more pounds.

That's a pretty solid 60-footer if that's on street tires. You might be able to squeak out a 1.9-2.0 but thats tough to do on everyday rubber. A 2.1 60-footer on street tires is VERY good your first time out.

You could always try drag radials and dump the clutch, but too much can go wrong there, but it will drop your 60's possible to the 1.7-1.9 range.

Gaining 20MPH from 1/8 to 1/4 is pretty typical of a low 14/high 13 second car. 98MPH should be able to get in the high 13's on street tires, but will require some practice. You are right though, the car is capable of 13's..you just need to practice more. The key is going to be keeping your 60' low and the 330' times. If you get those down, the rest will drop too
