Who still runs their G?

Anyone out here still hit the track with their car? If so what mods do you have and what wheel/tires do you use

Me, once I get the damn thing running again. 305/35/18 Micky Thompson ET Street radials on an 18x10. My "garage" is mostly updated with the mods.

I will have check out your garage. I been looking for a street tire other than these all seasons I been running. Anyway what’s going on with your car? You ran lows 13s on motor then what on boost?

Some electrical issues, bad radiator, coolant leak behind block, retune.....etc. Ran 11.8@118 in California.

Just look at some of the higher performance summer tires out there. Never dragged with the Michelin Pilot SS, but they grip well and have a soft sidewall.

You got plans to change anything for more power?

Not yet. Added cams and larger valves a while ago, which is why I'm having it retuned. Once I get more track time than I'll consider dumping more money into it.

You probably will end up running a faster time. Good luck

I’m planning on doing full bolt ons and a tune to start. See how I can do. I want to end up getting mid to low 13s modded. I Ran 14.2 stock already Personally I think I can go .1 or .2 faster as is. Maybe I will try a few more times b4 I mod. I been to the track twice and made 5 passes with this car. Either way I will post progress. I was hoping that some of the guys here still were active and had their cars still. But I realize every body don’t run at the track. Been reading thru looking for info. Some old pics n links of vids are not working.

Taming the Tail of The Dragon this past November

I'm going to get to the drag strip one of these days with the G35 project. GT35RS isn't complete yet so far as lightening it (tossing the stock seats) and some other plans I have drawn up but I'm very curious how it will perform on the track in full street trim.

Way back in the day I put a full street trim 89 s13 hatch with an sr20det and really cheap Douglas stock 15" tires 13.0@108 at Darlington, SC. I dyno'd that SR20det at 227whp/256tq and pulled 1.8 60ft

Before that I dialed in my 90 CRX with dohc 1.6L ZC making a whopping 132whp/112tq to a 13.9@99 also on cheap street tires.

If I can maintain traction thru second the G pulls pretty hard, it may even tap the 12s here at sea level, especially if I replace the stock power seats and lose 100# of dead weight.

I'm more about the turns though to be honest, the G was amazing in the mountains on the Tail of the Dragon, but I do appreciate a well-rounded sports car, and I enjoy rolling flat out too.

For comparison, my 2003 6mt GT35RS project is full boltons.. shorty header, test pipes, mid pipe, custom borla exhaust, md 5/16" plenum spacer, stage 3 clutch, 17# flywheel, aluminum driveshaft, and aluminum crank and accessory pulleys. She revs SO quick.
I also have a K&N cold air intake mainly for the exotic wail it makes at WOT.. I don't care if a stock box and ztube makes a smidgen more hp. ;) It's not about the hp in the end for me, but the experience and the tingles down my spine unleashing it.

ok I will check it out. hope you get to run it at the track soon. Post video of the runs

EPiK 02-08-2018 01:13 PM

the only running I've done recently. this is only a generic UpRev base tune. I'm doing the full tune this week finally.

Siknin 02-08-2018 07:43 PM

Nice. Sounds healthy and looks good. What you think it’s gonna run?

EPiK 02-08-2018 07:57 PM

with the aluminum ds and lightweight flywheel its actually difficult to launch smoothly, so i'll be slipping the stage 3 clutch off the line. I honestly don't know what it'll run. Probably 13.5 the first time out, then whittled down to a 12 with practice?? i'll be doing the final etune in the next day or so and running on the dyno again to check it. it's really rich right now on the base e tune and still made decent power, so it'll only get better obviously. gonna be fun either way

Siknin 02-08-2018 11:51 PM

Good luck. It’s nice to see some guys still active running their G. I’ve only had mine for about 6 months. I only went to the track twice. I’m still stock. But I’m collecting parts tho
