New clutch and flywheel and car won't start!
 

I need some help guys! I just got my new Exedy stg 1 clutch and XACT prolite flywheel installed and now the car won't run! The car would start very weak and shut after around 3 seconds of rough idling. Also theres excessive white smoke coming from the exhaust. Anyone know what's up? The only fault I can think of is that the flywheel is actually for a 350z, but almost all the G and the 350z parts are interchangeable. Help me out guys!

Check the crank sensor.

Sometimes with aftermarket flywheels you need a very small spacer on it.

Ahh thank God you responded Tim, well we did check the crank position sensor but it's fine!

Another thing is the car smells like its burning fluid, not fuel.

What did you do to verify the crank position sensor?

It sounds like it does not know the crank position and is misfiring. Any codes?

The code had nothing to do with the crank position sensor. Forgot what code it showed, I'll post the code up tomorrow morning.

Still don't know what's up so we're taking the tranny apart again....

Most aftermarket flywheels for the VQ35 models have a FWD and RWD crank dowel index. There should be two holes on the back of the flywheel and you have to make sure you have the dowel in the correct one. If you have it indexed incorrectly it can cause the car to stall, stumble and run like crap in general! Check this out and let me know what you find.

As a side note, I have seen some aftermarket flywheels that have the timing trigger miss-aligned or backwards. You can check this as well to insure that the orientation is correct. Comparing it to the stock flywheel would be the easiest way to assess this. There was a change in the timing trigger as well that occured in 2007. If you had the wrong flywheel for your model year it could cause issues like this too. What model year is your car? Let me know and I will be happy to assist you further. Thanks!

I have seen this issue come up before too.

It sure sounds like an issue with the flywheel or something not letting the crank position sensor read right.

Back before my current multi-plate clutch, the dealer was replacing my tranny and put in my UR flywheel in at the same time. They had to use a spacer on the crank position sensor. It was tiny, like a very thin washer. I was shocked that such a small distance change made such a huge difference. If the dowel index turns out to be right I would see if putt a very thin spacer on there helps.

this is because the flywheel has a timing mark and if it is not on right then the car will not run. this problem just happend to me and it was solved today

I know this is old as dirt, but if you guys are still around, can you explain the timing marks and towel pins? My fly has only one alignment hole and theres only one dowel pin on the engine.
