6MT Clutch Replacement Options

Please don't shoot me if I am being redundant. I searched. I couldn't find a solid answer.

2003 G35 C 6MT. 78K miles
The clutch started slipping and I guess it's time to change it. I would like to know what my options are besides the OEM clutch. I drive fairly aggressively, and planning do some occasional track days on it. Also, who are some of the online retailers that I could buy from?

Thanks!

you need to try an "advanced search"

and sort by relevance

just search CLUTCH or AFTERMARKET CLUTCH

you'll find like 1000000000 results

Thanks guys. I used the Advanced search. Looks like ACT and JWT are the after-market options. Although going to after-market means I need to change flywheel?

IMO you should do the flywheel at the same time. Most likely your OEM flywheel is warping and has heat spots as any flywheel will at 78k. Plus, it doesn't take much more labor to do the flywheel if the clutch is already being done. With that said, I don't know if the factory flywheel can just be resurfaced (because it's a dual mass - correct me if I'm wrong), so you'd be better off swapping it out. I have heard good things about RPS as far as chatter goes, but not sure about performance.

Thanks! I got the Exedy OEM + ACT Street combo. It's going to the shop on Thursday. It's been more than a week since I drove my G

Both excellent brands. Should be fun to drive when you get it back, but prepare for low RPM chatter (probably not too bad, but noticeable)

So I got it installed for a few days now. I notice the chatter very rarely. There is no idle noise, which made me think that I should've gone with a lighter flywheel.

The clutch feel is different. The clutch is more like an on-off switch, rather than a progressive feel. I feel like a n00b again chirping the tires. I don't know if it revs up faster, but it does rev down faster. It feels like I lost some engine braking. The G definitely has a different character to it now, it feels lighter through the turn (loss of engine braking?).. still not sure if I like it.

btw, what's with 750miles break-in period with the clutch?

My JWT Light weight clutch and flywheel sound like a cement mixer when in neutral, but otherwise I like it...

You have a brand new clutch disc. Give it a few hundred miles and you will have a more smooth engagement. The break-in period is basically to prevent you from glazing the clutch and essentially have an immediately useless clutch. It's analogous to the engine's 4000 mile break-in period. Just don't slip the clutch or try any hard launches during the suggested break-in. You'll most likely regret it. But again, I can almost guarantee the engagement will become smoother.

I went with OEM Exedy clutch and a ACT prolite flywheel, love the combo, although with lightened flywheels there is chatter which doesnt bother me
