Stuck in 3rd gear
 

Hello all,

First post here. Hope someone can help out. I have a 2004 G35X with 173,000 that is having transmission issues. It drives fine for about 20-30 minutes...accelerates, changes gears up and down, no issues at all. Then after 20 minutes or so, the car will get stuck in 3rd gear. It won't shift up or down anymore. It becomes hard to accelerate from a stopped position and will not go above 55mph. If I let it sit for a few hours and drive it again, it is fine for about 20 minutes then it gets stuck in 3rd again. Any ideas of what could cause this?

Man that doesn't sound good but here are some suggestions.


Try switching gears in manual mode if you haven't already.

Do a drain and fill on the transmission and see if that helps.

Disconnect your battery, pump the brakes a few times and let it sit for 30 minutes before reconnecting the battery.

Take it to the nearest auto parts store, have the car scanned for trouble codes even if the AT light or SES light isn't on and see if any pop up.



Out side of those suggestions I've got nothing else to suggest except take it to a reputable transmission shop for a proper diagnosis.
