Transmission Swap - CD009 :)
Hey Guys,
I'm going to be swapping my 03 g35 with a cd009 from a 350z. (Synchro issues ofcourse)
Anyways what tools would I need, I've already purchased redline mt-85, a new throwout bearing.
Anyone that has done this job before, which socket sizes will I be needing, etc.
Thank you

If you clutch has been replaced recently and you don't plan on swapping it out as well I would just do the throwout bearing and that brass guide (or better yet upgrade to the Nismo needle bearing one that doesn't wear out). You're going to need the full array of sockets/deep sockets/wrenches 10,12,14,17 because there's a ton of body bolts to take off to get the propeller shaft out. Can of PB blaster, ratchet, breaker bar, 2-3ft long pipe you can put a 14mm wrench into to hold one side of the propeller shaft bolt at the axle so you can break all 4 loose. Couple of extensions and a swivel to reach those harder to get bellhousing bolts. I highly recommend just removing the Y-pipe in the exhaust to give yourself more room, technically it can stay in place but it's a tight fit. Random smaller tools to take apart the shifter from the inside of the vehicle. Try to get your hands on a clutch alignment tool because the chances of it all staying in place are very slim.
Obviously you'll need a lift or jackstands, a transmission plate adapter for your floor jack and probably a second person to help you get the new one back in so everything is aligned properly.
Protip, don't use 12 point sockets, ONLY use 6 point ones. Most of those bolts are in the 40-50ft/lb range and coupled with a decade of corrosion they're going to be pretty rough breaking initial torque, 12 point sockets will probably strip the heads off on them then you're completely ****ed.

No you can stick your finger in there to make sure it's aligned but it's just easier with the tool, you can pick one up for about $5 though. Otherwise you end up having to guide it through the pressure plate then turning the input shaft a tad to get it to line up on the clutch plates and it's just a pita.
