Actually, trannys are usually rated/limited by Torque, not HP.
Anyway, I was wondering the same thing... |
5AT "beefing up" as you put can be done a few ways:
Company: Level10 Valvebody and Torque Converter ($800-1000) Company: Stillen Valvebody ($700+) Company: SGPRacing Reworked Trans ($3200) Valvebody jobs will allow your trans to shift much faster and more smoothly. This will reduce the shock to the system when switching gears with added torque. A lower stall TC (or maybe it was higher stall?) will also help, but I don't remember the reasons why. SGP will build up the tranny for you and claims 800+ HP power handling. (Which is funny because as stated before, the TQ is what'll trash the tranny.) Q45Tech told me that the planetary gears in our trans are aluminum and are probably the weak point. Some folks here that have FI on their ATs have had them for more than a year and I haven't heard anything bad yet though. Try PMing these guys: TINMAN: TT with a re-worked 5AT His Homepage Kamal34: TT with no trans mods Tluv: NitrousExpress with Stillen VB DFWG35: Vortech SC with Stillen VB His homepage I forgot who else has done AT work. . .but there are more. There has been a lot of discussion of this in the FI forum recently. That's a fun place to check too. Good luck! -drewer- |
Good info, but he's got a 6MT.

LOL. :o I'm blind. :o All the 6MTs that are being "beefed" up are getting racing clutches. . .but I haven't seen anyone actually doing anything else to the guts. Apparently the 6MT can withstand a lot of torque. How much? I don't know. :o There's a guy named "BoulderG" I think, that has a Greddy TT setup and has discussed a lot of trans upgrades that He has done. . .you can try sending him a PM. . .

Here is the thread that discusses a pretty beefed up 6MT. . .
