Ok, so i'm trying to not be embarassed to ask, but grinding gears....

I dunno if it's just me, but i bought my car brand new a few days ago and i've grinded 3rd twice now. Everything else is fine with my driving, the occasional jerkiness, but it's the grinding which makes me almost cry inside :-x

How bad is this on the transmission? It's just a push *grind*, release "omg" while coasting in neutral, and then try again while crying.

:( :(

holy sh!t 3 times!! ...your tranny is done with...

nahhhhh....its all good..for now :p

Atooraya Aug 5, 2005 07:05 PM

no

twice :( :( :(

i seriously feel like i'm crying inside when i do it :P

I've driven a 2000 VW GTI, a BMW 325e (friend's i learned stick on) a 300zx and a ford probe

this is my first car that is MINE that's stick. I've put 200 miles on it in the past 4 days.

Everytime i step out of it, i wanna get back in and drive just because it's so much fun driving it....it just bothers me when i grind.

your grinding third? If you are pushing the clutch in fully, and still grinding then you need a new tranny im sorry to say. But if its just the case of not fully pressing the clutch in, then try pushing the seat up more :)

I consider myself a seasoned MT driver, but sometimes i grind gears too.

you're okay with a little grinding....just don't make a habit of it.
make sure you clutch-in to the floor, and clearly enter the gates (without
force, that is).

It's an 05 right? Just checking because I have seen a few 04's still laying around at the dealers. Grinding is O K as long as you don't do it a lot. And because it's brand new it might grind a few times before everything starts working smoothly. Just be careful and don't cry lol.

*Edit* I have a question. When downshifting theres sometimes this whirrring feeling in the stick. Anyone know what it is or why??

skyliner35- that's the syncro at work. You're fine. :)

before ejaculation that feeling is natural in your stick :)

ya, i wouldnt worry about it too much. i think everyone grinds once and awhile, esp when driving aggressively. sometimes my hand is way faster then my left foot. :p if it makes you feel better, you could always change your tranny fluid to remove shavings. not 100 positive that it would actually help tho. hopefully, someone who knows a lot more then me can weigh in on this. :p either way, i really wouldnt worry too much about it after a few times.

I doubt it's anything more than poor shifting, but to be sure, let someone else try it, someone who's a good driver. If they don't get the grinding then more than likely it's something you're doing wrong.

Being so new, it's probably a matter of getting used to it.

is there a way to adjust the clutch pedal so that it sits lower to the carpet w/o screwing up everything?

I'm kinda tall and find it annoying to lift my foot up so high.

thanks guys

Adrian

ps: the other (other than my own reasons) reason why I ask this is that it might make Atooraya's life a bit better with a shorter push distance as well.
