Didn't know this... good info, especially since GC is considered a premium group IV oil.

I was using Mobil 1 in the past but I switched to Royal Purple about a year ago. Now Castrol has a new synthetic out. Know anything about the new Castrol and is Royal Purple ok?

Royal Purple has gotten mixed reviews on this and other sites, German Castrol has had a positive review everywhere I've checked. Mobil 1 has been raked over the coals by many for it's "apparent" change in formula and use of group III base stock as part of it's formula. I've been waiting for reviews on the new Castrol Edge- nothing solid out there yet that I know of.

I've been on mobil1 every 7500 miles. Now at 83k miles and motor still runs like new and doesn't burn a drop of oil. I'll have to report back when I'm at 100+k miles but I believe I'll be living proof that there is no need to spend more money on higher end motor oils for daily driving. You can't beat the price for a 5qt jug at Walmart.

From reading the last 20 pages of this thread, i've decided to go buy German Castro today for my next oil change:

http://www.autozone.com/autozone/cat...estions=%5B%5D

Can somebody verfiy that this is the correct one i'm looking for and one more quick question; especially for all my fellow Southern Cali G35 owners.

Based on our weather; which should i choose: 0w-30 or 5w-30?

Thanks in advance.

Unless you get freezing weather for significant parts of the year, 5W30 should be fine. 0W30 MAY save a tiny bit of gas.

Are there any drawbacks of putting 0w30 as opposed to 5w30?

With all things being equal as in terms of final viscosity at operating temperature, than the only drawback I can think of is if you like to "WOT" your car before its fully warmed up... the 5w "may" be slightly more beneficial since it is technically thicker at the same low temps.

But if you wait till your oil/engine is fully warmed up before any full throttle / high rpm shifts than with all things being equal... I think the 0w has more benefits than drawbacks.
