Car won't go past 2200 rpm

Ok guys I'm really stump on why this is happening, I got in my car after I warmed it up and when I drive it won't go past 2200 rpm it will just cut out like there is a rev limiter and it makes my whole car jerk like a newbie learning how to drive stick even when I'm not in gear and just rev it won't go past 2200 rpm. My car is an 04 6mt with only 25,125 miles on it please help me out.

Sounds like it went into limp mode or granny mode as some like to call it. As far as fixing it idk. If i remember correctly you have to reset the ecu. Ill let someone who knows more about the topic chime in though. Good luck!

sounds like it might be fuel problem.. or a sensor somewhere...i dunno your kinda vague..does it stutter when it revs to 2200?? and weird noises??

GreenGoblin 01-08-2008 08:20 AM

ya sounds like limp moded have you done any mods lately

617G 01-08-2008 08:35 AM

yep, def limp mode...is your slip, VDC, and CEL lights all on?

try to limp it to autozone and read the CEL code...that should help you diagnose the issue.

No the car is completely stock. Thanks for the advices guys

oneup 01-08-2008 11:10 AM

Oh and no vdc or any lights come on

sliderg35 01-08-2008 11:11 AM

If it is in limp mode, there should definitely be a CEL light as well. If not, limp mode is canceled every time you turn off the car. If it goes back to limp mode on the next start, it's because the problem is still there (and the associated CEL will come back if cleared).

this happened to me 2 yrs ago.. my car wouldnt go past 3k rpms. i drove it home that night real slow, started it the next morning and it was perfectly fine and never happened again. if it doesnt go away just take it in to the dealership

Could water be a problem to? We just had a big rain storm here in California.

AmateuRN 01-08-2008 12:13 PM

If you drove through some deep water. It's hard to get water in the stock intake, but it happens fairly often in really heavy rains. That could definately put you into limp mode. If you don't have a CEL try disconnecting the battery for 12 to 24 hours... if it still won't go past 2200, time for the dealer.

617G 01-08-2008 12:19 PM

I don't see how you could be in limp mode and not have a check engine light. Are you sure you don't have one? This def looks like a job for the dealer if disconnecting the battery overnight doesn't fix it.

oneup 01-08-2008 12:52 PM

thanks guys I'll try the disconnect battery thing today I'll keep you guys posted. If that don't work I'll just bite my tounge and take it in so the dealer can rape me.

The dealer is your only source of Nissan Warranty Money............not bringing it by every 90 days for oil changes loses them the opportunity to find work they can charge Nissan to repair. The more they find to charge Nissan the less you will pay later when serious problems show up after warranty.

Ok so I started my car today to move it off the drive way and to my surprise my car is normal again!!!! WTF is going on, it drives normal now with no lag or hesitation. I'm still going to bring it to the deales though.
