Gurgen's dyno numbers?
Gurgen, you never posted any dyno numbers since you installed your kit. I guess you weren't happy with the numbers? Even though you said you wanted to tune it still, what were the numbers you initially got? Just so people know what to expect from the kit out of the box. Also, why do you say you need tuning? Didn't you say you went with the TS reflash? I thought that is the tuning?

Re: Gurgen's dyno numbers?
I don't think he has gotten his dyno done yet. I'm sure he will get one done. Even when he was running only 4.? pounds of boost, his car was very strong.

Re: Gurgen's dyno numbers?
Patience young grasshopper :p ... J/K!
He should have them coming in a matter of weeks. I have personally been on his case about it. Besides simply not having the time to dyno as a very busy guy, he's also experiencing difficulties with his internet connection lately. An ECU reflash does not imply the system is fully tuned or optimized. What it does do is give a base map to start from. Tuning is a trial and error process, so there will be many reflashes before they settle on what they believe is an ideal program for all conditions. Tadashi, the brainchild behind the tuning at TS, had to leave for Japan litterally days after the PE kits was installed. He left a very safe and conservative ignition/fuel map for Gurgen to play with until he returns. In the mean time, Gurgen was told to drive her lots and drive her hard to test the general reliability and fitment of the kit, as this is PE's first application on a G35 AT Sedan. So at this point, the car is far from 'tuned'. Recently Gurgen got himself a boost controller, which finally allowed him to raise the boost from the default 4.x psi. He's played with it up to the virge of 7psi (that I'm aware of). I got to drive it and it is strong. How strong? Again, we don't know until we hit the dyno. ... stay tuned! I'm sure he'll chime in personally once he resolves the ISP issues. Cheers, Clint (THX723) |
Re: Gurgen's dyno numbers?
Since you're so busy gurgen.. I'm willing to sacrifice and take your car to the dyno for you.. uh huh yeah.. dyno..

Re: Gurgen's dyno numbers?
kjbalto not to be a dik or anything, but if you read every one of his posts he gave an est. on what his numbers would be like at his boost and what it would be like at a higher boost. If you also saw his runs at the track he was running low 13's or high 12's at 4.3 psi of boost? with the sea level correction. That kit is reliable and sick from what ive read, heard and seen with almost no turbo lag. I want it!! Martin

Re: Gurgen's dyno numbers?
Heh heh ... Martin give em a break. I believe he was making a simple and honest inquiry (or I'm just a big sucker) and may have worded in such a way that may be opens to other interpretations.
I think high 12s at sea level on stock boost (~4.3psi) is bit too optimistic. It was definitely in the lower ranges of the 13s however (say somewhere in the neighborhood of 13.2s). At beyond 6.5psi, it was definitely knocking on the 12s doors!!! The numbers will be out soon! Clint (THX723) |
Re: Gurgen's dyno numbers?
ILLG35, I did read his posts and I don't give a [censored] what his estimates are. That means nothing. Some of you guys just jump down people's throats when they ask questions. I was just asking a question that I thought a lot of people wanted an answer to. Gurgen has always talked about the PE kit very highly and so has Cheston. All the guys with the Greddy kit talk about their kits highly too. The only difference is that they back up their talk. Everybody on my350z has been haunting Cheston to show his dyno sheet and he won't do it for some reason. He said it doesn't prove anything. lol I am interested in getting one of the kits soon, but first I would like to see some evidence on the PE kit. Both Cheston and Gurgen have never showed a dyno. From what Gurgen has posted in the past, it looked as if he had it dynoed but wasn't happy with the numbers so he's waiting to make some changes and dyno it again. So I wanted to know what his dyno numbers were that he wasn't happy with. We're all trying to learn from the brave guys who got the kits first. So don't take my question the wrong way. Gurgen, if you took offense to my question, I apologize, I didn't not mean to start anything.

Re: Gurgen's dyno numbers?
KjbAlto i appologize!! The way you worded it or ont he computer sounded like you were trying to get at him for any reason because he didn't have the dyno numbers up when he said!! I dunno, my fault though. I will be the first to say, ive never ever said anything to anyone about their posts or new people to the site, ive alwasy helped out with what i can for people to learn things or gain info. I meant to say he did have number "i think" baseline at 4.3lbs of boost. He ran low 13's, my mistake. And that was at 4.3, then he said he would be upping the boost and his car wasnt even tuned then. =)

"The only difference is that they back up their talk." Also the type of guy gurgen seems to be is real cool and modest. Ive never heard him say anything but good things about having his turbo kit in and being conservative with it (Not bragging and stuff) Not a dik with money who drops a turbo in and says they're faster than everyone, just realize that not everyone has a lot of time like that to be posting every minute of the day! I dont think in fact i KNOW he wouldnt be emabarassed of putting up his dyno numbers. Anyway, hope he gets them up soon. :)

Re: Gurgen's dyno numbers?
Oh come on KjbAlto ... now you're sounding like I shouldn't have given you the benefit of the doubt. In either case, the truth will present itself sooner or later. Aggrevating the party of interest will only delay the goods ... afterall, why should they share if everyone's throwing stones at them. Let's us all just sit back and see.

Re: Gurgen's dyno numbers?
OK, I am here and just got to SF and to my internet connection...
In fact, I was informed of this thread by phone as i was on the grapevine leaving L.A. Kj, After reading your first post, i thought that it was more of a question/inquiry rather than a derisive/disrespectful comment, as I have picked it up in your later post (toward me and Cheston). I would personally not accuse people of anything without any solid substantiation.
In reply to:
I did read his posts and I don't give a [censored] what his estimates are. That means nothing. Some of you guys just jump down people's throats when they ask questions. I was just asking a question that I thought a lot of people wanted an answer to. Everybody on my350z has been haunting Cheston to show his dyno sheet and he won't do it for some reason.

Don't be such an idiot and a prick. As Clint has said, "just getting an ECU reflash" is NOT tuning. that obviously shows how much you know about tuning. Cheston is about 10 times busier than I am, and generally I myself am pretty busy. He has been going through iterations of a TS reflash himself, but just not had the time to do "24/7" testing like I am. Do you think greddy, before putting out their included fuel map (which still requires fine-tuning) in the emanage did just a few days of testing? Or any other company for that matter. This takes time/energy/risk taking.... TS, mine, and Cheston's reputation (not to mention a ~$50K car is at stake). So chill... The right way to do it is to tune the kit for ALL possible conditions, and not just put it on the dyno on a single day, do 10-15 runs, add/subtract fuel/timing and be on your way. That's how Max (12secZ) did not even make it home from the dyno shop after his procharger was "dyno tuned". IT TAKES TIME!!!!!! Now for the more enlightened.... here are the facts guys. I just want to summarise them again to clarify things, as I was planning to do a few days ago. The Kit: baseline boost is 4.3 psi. Since the turbos are of pretty healthy size, they DO have a lag in first gear run from stop. Let me explain: all turbos are load based compressors (to put it very bluntly), so the more load you have on teh car, teh faster they spool up. So, in first gear, full boost by about 3500-3700rpm, which is about ~1.5sec lag. once you are moving, the lag is essentialy absent, especially in higher gears. On the fwy for example, there is simply no lag, as you are stepping on the throttle, you can see the boost needle "follow" you from -20inHg (vacuum), through "0" to full boost (4-8psi - whatever you set)... with about a 0.2 second lag I'd say - essentially nonexistent. Perfomance: Of course, no DynoJet dyno of the kit yet exists. Bosch dynos of the prototype Z kit DO exist, however, but the numbers do not correspond to the dynojet ones. I have never said that this kit will produce better numbers than greddy. However, I did say that the parts list, overall quality of parts and workmanship IS much higher than greddy's. B/c greddy has been done more than a few times, it is easier/safer for a greddy owner to know how much Cheston and I will be getting together next week for a dyno. What I can offer you, and did, are G-tech runs, before AND after, as well as track times. In many people's opinion, those numbers carry more weight. But, dynos are coming too, soon..... And accusing us of dynoing the car and not posting the results is rediculous.... The dynos that I will be posting will be those of a car close to being prefectly tuned. As i have a wideband o2 sensor and can monitor a/f (one of 2 cornerstones of tuning) all the time, I have no need to go to the dyno right away. Don't you think it's smarter to at least get the a/f normalized (for a variety of conditions) and make sure you have no timing issues before going to the dyno? I will be going to a dynapack dyno for fune tuning... and then to a dynojet. Clint, Martin, Anthony, et al., thank for your support guys. Feel free to contact me (anyone) if you guys have any questions. Gurgen http://www.gurgen.com/G35Pics/Forum-Sig.gif |
Re: Gurgen's dyno numbers?
Forgot to clarify the numbers...
I ran 13.19@106 at 4.3 psi at sea level (12" rollout distance assumed). Definitely not in the 12's at this level. I am however sure, without having done a Gtech run at the higher boost levels, that I am in the mid 12's at 6-7psi at sea level. I will be posting the screenshots of the gtech runs shortly for public consumption in the next 2 hours. This is further substantiated by analysing my LACR numbers: 13.4 at 6.5 psi and 13.994-14.1 at 4.3 psi. The latter number corresponds to a 13.2-13.4 (13.4 is hte worst case scenario, assuming the g-tech is ptimistic by 0.2 seconds - the most difference we have ever seen) at sea level with a g-tech at 4.3 psi. So, you can do the math here. Also, take into account that I was doing this with crappy 235/50 kumho ($100) tires. I'd like to report some disappointing developments however, in the interest of full disclosure. It seems as though I have developed an exhaust manifold leak... so any dyno numbers would not be valid at this point anyways. I noticed the leak during/after the last LACR night. It could be anything at this point, a cracked manifold at worst and a loose bolt at best. Either way... here si the plan 1) Fix the leak monday (PE has a manifold for warranty replacement if need be). 2) Go to a dyno tuning session next week to get an idea of what i need to fine tune in the final flash of the ecu. 3) Get the new reflash with the J&S (check my original J&S post) in mind. 4) Enjoy. (I am almost getting a little tired of this.... I said "almost") Gurgen http://www.gurgen.com/G35Pics/Forum-Sig.gif |
Re: Gurgen's dyno numbers?
Man Gurgen, you are my G35 Sedan modding mentor =) Thanks for your help and info, it seems like i will not have enough time like you do to be modding my car such as FI i think within the next few years because of college and also if its gonna be my daily car here in NY (Snow) It takes a lot of strength to deal with the bullshittt your facing with this car ie: leaks etc.. but it is part of the task of doing heavy modding. Your info is improving my learning skills and knowledge of car =) Good luck with it man, post numbers and whatever when you have a chance. Im sure everyone is just as interested as I am. My dream would one day be to have a show car that is turbo;d or supercharged and FAST as hell, but im only 19 and skipping a lifetime of hard work and fun to get to this point haha unfortunately. We'll see.. Martin =)

Re: Gurgen's dyno numbers?
Martin
It is certainly a leaning process... i did nothing out of the ordinary but be inquisitive and read a lot. A year ago, i was light years away from this point .. i did not know a tenth of what i know now about cars/turbos/scs/modding. Hang in there.... an do it when you can.... The BS that I am putting up with is not as bad as it sounds . a labor of love of sorts.... Again, this is because I am the first to do this kit on this car.... others that follow will not have early as much grief.... G http://www.gurgen.com/G35Pics/Forum-Sig.gif |
