Car died - won't start
A friend of mine just finished a vortech install w/ injectors and pump and another friend of mine with experience with utech was doing some tuning for him and about half hour into the tune the car died. They pushed it back and I am trying to diagnose why it will not start.
Things I know prior to it dieing - The car was running rich during part of the tune. Before they left to tune I know the battery was getting low from sitting with the lights on for 20 minutes or so but it never got low enough to not turn over. We jumped it for a bit to build the battery and then it drove for around for a while fine. It did have to start several times from the flashes. When going to try and start the car everything seems to come on as normal, all the lights are bright and the pump primes nicely. It turns over but doesnt even try to fire. Are there any certain fueses to look for that could cause this? Could it be a safey feature with the computer and the car running rich? I have tried to start it over an hour after it died. I wouldn't imagine the plugs would just foul that quick but I am not sure. |
Pulled the pass side front plug and the plugs seem to be ok. They are a little dark on the threads but everything else looks ok. Maybe a sensor might have went bad? Something came unplugged?

Have you wired any additional components up? I had a problem with a fuse that I had used a add-a-fuse to hook up my gauges. It did not blow the fuse but caused the fuel pressure/pump to not operate. After I switched fuse location the car started back up.
|
Yes we wired up 3 gauges. I used the black and white wire under the dash.
What fuse could do this? |
Ignition/ECM fuse but not likely if the fuel pump is working.
Have you checked the UTEC connections and ground wire ? Yes you can foul out the plugs quickly enough to prevent ignition. I would clean all the plugs or replace them. I assume thier brand new 1 step colder plugs since its a recent Vortech install. Do not exceed .035 gap on plugs. |
All the connections are good on the Utec, looking at the plugs they appear to be fine.
The way all this happend is very strange, cars like this don't usually just die. The car was idling nice and the drivability was good. |
Could the computer have shut down on purpose?
|
reset the computer and the car started.. weird.
