Unhappy Engine Overheating

Hello everyone,

I have an '05 G35 coupe that I bought in the US. After 2 years of using it there, I had it shipped to Saudi Arabia. Now I'm having an engine overheating problem especially when I'm driving it during the day when the temperature is well above 105F. The engine temperature gets real high sometimes, close to the red line area. What's surprising is that the temperature never went up when I used to drive it back in the US (Texas and Oklahoma weather).

The car has about 73k miles on it.

Does anybody know what might be causing the problem?

Thanks in advance

probably time for a coolant change and check your fans. I've read on this forum that the fan motor fails from time to time to be sure i'd do the thermostat and water pump for secure measure. Clean out your radiator as well.

What coolant to distilled water ratio is suggested for your hot climate?

what kind of fuel are you using in the engine? i thought UAE uses leaded fuel still? If that is the case then that could be causing your OH issues as you would be using the wrong type of gas. US uses UNleaded fuel

how is your heat at idle? should be almost uncomfortable out the center vents set to full heat on the highest fan setting. if not there could be an air pocket in your cooling system.

are you cooling fans kicking on? are they running on full blast constantly?

I'm not an expert, but here is what I think. It isn't the fans, because your problem only occurs at highway speeds. At highway speeds there is so much air going across the radiator that the fans just aren't the issue. I also don't think it is the thermostat, because a bad thermostat would cause cooling issues at any speed. It could be the water pump. You say the situation improves when you raise the revs. When you raise the revs the water pump is turning faster which could make up for a poorly working pump. You could also check that the belt is tight. You might try changing the coolant and having it pressure tested before spending money on the water pump.

One more thing. Does turning off the AC help lower the temp?

You need to purge the cooling system real good with a spill free funnel. Little bits of air get caught in the system real easy and cause all kinds of issues in hot weather. This is a very common issue with the VQ.
