Motor Dies after cold start (unlessed rev'd)

Hey guys this issue just started showing it's face about a month ago and has progressively gotten to the point now where it'll turn the car off.

Symptoms:

Cold starts after cranking idle drops extremely low and car dies...when i first noticed the problem it would idle low then pick back up as usual but now turns the motor off everytime

Can give the car gas to keep the idles up in the mornings or after extended period of non use and that obviously will keep the idle up and the engine will stay on.

Car drives fine and cranks flawlessly throughout the day, no issues at all.

Troubleshooting i've done:

I've only tried the fuel antifreeze/injector cleaner stuff since I initially thought this was related to the cold weather but now that it's warmed up I see that has no bearing.

Cleaned MAF, no engine codes

Fresh spark plugs

Additional info:

04, AT, 160k, non garage parked.

Thanks in advance for any assistance

Clean the tb?

JaE35 Dec 16, 2012 08:56 PM

To my understanding the throttle body wouldn't be cold start conditional correct?

Shanes_G Dec 16, 2012 09:08 PM

Might be stuck up in the cold gunk build up. Then when it gets warm it doesent effect it as much. I'm going out on a limb. Lol just trying to give you some idea lol

could be fuel pump going out

JaE35 Dec 18, 2012 11:28 AM

Yea i'm going to swap it out just to be sure

Tolboothwilley™ Dec 18, 2012 12:32 PM

replace it with the Walbro - follow the DIY here on driver...better pump all around

JaE35 Dec 18, 2012 01:23 PM

I was considering that, i'll search on it now

JaE35 Dec 25, 2012 12:50 PM

Issue resolved, dirty throttle body was the culprit

Shanes_G Dec 25, 2012 01:11 PM

ha! my guess was right!

JaE35 Dec 25, 2012 01:12 PM

yup lol, that thing was filthy man..black as tar, took forever to clean

Shanes_G Dec 25, 2012 01:14 PM

what did you use to clean it?

JaE35 Dec 25, 2012 01:18 PM

CRC throttle body cleaner and about 7 towels...didn't disconnect it just unbolted it so I didn't have to battle the relearn procedure

Shanes_G Dec 25, 2012 01:42 PM

if you just disconnected the neg battery connection you would have been fine
