What's this noise?!?!

I have a 06 g35 coupe and recently I've been getting this rattle or vibration? Im pretty positive its From the left side of engine(passenger side) and it's really noticeable under low acceleration..and then when the sound starts to quiet down when pressing the gas more. Video is of the car idling but there's definitely a ticking sound. And advice will be well appreciated. Thanks in advance

Have you done any mods lately?

ACE420 Apr 28, 2014 01:23 AM

No new mods lately. Just have plenum spacer, short ram intake, Berk hi flo cats, motordyne TDx v2 shockwave exhaust. But these were all added over a year ago. And this noise just started last week

PLENUMCOUPE Apr 28, 2014 02:00 AM

I listened closely to the video and didn't hear anything abnormal. Any leaks or check engine light? Motor have a weak idle? If it continues get it checked out id say

Search for the Purge control valve. Its on the back of the engine, and makes some weird noises from time to time.

ACE420 Apr 28, 2014 11:01 AM

Ok sometime today I'll be posting another video of the ticking sound while revving so it's louder. And yes there's a check engine light but it came on after the mods awhile I figured it was ecu not understanding new air flow? And I'll be looking into that purge valve today too. Thanks for your help so far everyone this incident had been making me worried for days now

Next video with loud ticking

This is while revving ticking gets really noticeable around 2200 rpms

Pls let me know any opinions as I live in a small town in Texas that doesn't deal with cars like these. So I'm dreading taking it in to some mechanic with no experience with this type of car.

ACE420 Apr 29, 2014 12:15 AM

Anyone?

PLENUMCOUPE Apr 29, 2014 12:29 AM

Ahhh now I can hear it. Do the timing belts look ok with no dry cracking or small tears? It could be a cracked header letting out exhaust giving off that sound. One little trick to diagnosing problem sounds is while the car is off to take a small hammer or screwdriver and simply tap on parts individually and listen for any unnecessary rattles after the tap. Let us know

ACE420 Apr 29, 2014 12:35 AM

Yea I figured this ciseo would be better to hear it. and i looked at the belts and they looked fine even though I have brand new racing ones to install in the near future that I got for free. But I'll try the tapping technique tomorrow before I work. Thanks again man! This noise is kinda embarrassing and annoying especially cuz I have one of the nicest cars in my lil town

PLENUMCOUPE Apr 29, 2014 12:50 AM

No worries brotha. Keep in mind this could be anything. Could be internal. Could be a simple fix or a huge problem. BTW is ur oil at the right level?

ACE420 Apr 29, 2014 12:56 AM

Yea the oil was the first thing I checked and yea it's normal too. I'm hoping it's not internal. But if it is this will give me the push to finally get a performance long block engine and supercharger kit to be finally pushing serious power with my car

PLENUMCOUPE Apr 29, 2014 12:59 AM

DAAMMMMM. Blessing in disguise LOLZ. I hope it's not tho man wish u best
