Fast Crank won't start
Hey Everyone, I just ran into an issue. my 03 g35 AT, just shut off while driving and won't start up anymore. When I crank it, it spins really fast. I can see the crank spin when the trying to start. It sounds very different. I don't have a check engine light, or codes or anything.
I am thinking its the timing chain...any ideas? Thanks in advance. |
Is the red light steady or flashing?
If it's flashing move on otherwise try using another key. I'd check battery (try jumping it), fuses, relays, air, spark, fuel, and then maybe a crank or camshaft sensor. |
I am not sure which red light you mean. I don't have any llights staying on. I did a self diagnostic check to make sure and it was 0000. The battery is brand new and the starter does turn over. I checked the timing chain and tensioner and it is tight with no slack.
If it was a sensor, I believe it should throw a code right? While I was working on the motor I realized this looks like a compression issue. I am keeping my fingers crossed that I don't have to pull the motor.. |

Oh ok, the security light is not on.
I did a compression test and I am not getting any compression from any cylinders, which was my worst nightmare... |
You're not getting any compression or low compression?
|
I am not getting any compression.. it just sits at zero when engine being cranked.

Did you run out of oil or low oil? Maybe drain it and see if there is anything in there. Did it overheat at all? Can you crank it by hand with a breaker bar? I'd do a leak down test or if you don't have one. Take the shrader valve out of your compression tester, put the cylinder(s) at top dead center, and then listen to see where it leaks. That might be able to tell you if you need new cylinder heads or entire engine. |

well I figured out what it is, the Iron sleeve held up but the aluminum around it on 2 pistons didn't. A couple chunks broke off, which then sent water past the head gasket. Well that sucked..
