syntetic oil pro's and con's? If so when?
syntetic oil pro's and con's? If so when?
I've heard much about the use of sythetic oil in performance sports cars. Does anyone have any thought on switching to this on the g35coupe? Are there real benefits? Someone told me I would have to wait until certain miles are on the car, is this true?.. if so what is the reason for the wait period?
Re: syntetic oil pro's and con's? If so when?
this is an old poll/subject. Is it possible to check the archives.
IF you do switch, you can do it anytime. If the owners manual doesn't say no, it's fine.
Unless you plan on keeping the car for 100,000's of miles, add a turbo or SC or race, save your money and don't bother. As long as the manufacturer honors the warranty w/ regular oil, it's fine.

The primary purposes of synthetic oils are to reduce engine wear during cold start-up and drive-away, and to avoid or reduce oil degradation. Basically synthetic oil is thinner, resists temperature extremes better and generally lasts longer. As synthetics have gotten better, so have conventionals. Synthetics are usually recommended in newer high performance cars, for better heat properties. But lets face it, the G35 is no where near high performance.
Are synthetics better? Yes. Are they necessary in a G35? Of course not. Are they worth it? That is a personal call. Honestly, I just say do what the OEM says. If owners manual calls for regular oil every 3k, do that. If the owners manual calls for synthetic oil every 15k, do that.

That is no longer true. Higher engineering tolerances and improved alloys have all but eliminated break-in wear. Ive bought 4 new cars in last 2 years and all have come from factory with synthetic.
