After some hunting to find the 'old ones', I just received formal confirmation from Nissan that we can no longer purchase these Maxima covers at the old price. They have 'updated' (I call B.S.) the cover and it's now almost the same price as the replacement G35/350Z ones.
Seems Nissan got wise to my modification. Sadly it looks like we are on the hunt for another alternate. If you are able to buy the 'old' cover part number due to stock locally, it would be worth considering. I have no more available locally. If you were able to get this mod done before the change, WHOOT! If not many sadnesses.
Looks like we are back to the R&D method, or lubricating ourselves up for a stiff one from Nissan/Infiniti buying new replacements.

Sorry for the bad news guys. I'd recommend leaving this thread open for education purposes or for anyone able to get the old covers or lightly used Maxima covers.

**** As you might suspect, I can no longer offer pre-modded covers due to this change.

UPDATES:
1. You will need to either extend wiring for #6 injector, fabricate a secondary mount for #6 coil to turn it 180*, or purchase a pre-modded cover from me.
2. There are approximately 13 known people running these covers at this time, 10 of them I personally make plug and play covers for. This is now, officially, a "PROVEN" repair.


Since I've been asked a few times to make these pre-modded for people, I will tell you that I CAN do this for you.
However please be aware, that due to me being in Canada, I cannot offer this service cheap due to shipping costs and the additional price of parts here.
This is not a shameless effort to make money, I'm just doing it to help the community. I will not post prices here. And I am NOT ACTIVE on the forums.

If you get the cover from me,
You get a completely new, modified Driver side cover. You will NOT NEED to extend wiring, I'll modify the cover so it's Plug And Play.
You will only need to cut the oil cap and buy the Passenger side locally, and then it's a direct swap.
You'll have the option of buying the oil cap pre-modded from me also if necessary.

And then obviously you have the option of following the DIY and doing it yourself!!! Let's get into that!

Everyone should know about our engines little problem. The seals on the VC's leak and get oil into the spark plug tube, coil and onto the plug. Not cool.

Even worse, you can't replace them. Someone made some crazy kit that you had to hole saw and install seals with epoxy or something. LOL no thanks what a silly idea.

I called Nissan. They said $340+ for a SINGLE Valve cover to replace my leaking one.
And they are still the crappy old style seals.

No thanks on that either.

Get yourself a pair of 2004/2005 Nissan Maxima Valve Covers. These are under $100 for the pair, and have the updated seals.

I just completed this swap today, and the wires to the coil on #6 (rear driver's side) wouldn't reach since the Maxima valve covers rotate the coil. I ended up extending the wires about six inches.

Here you can see how the wires to the coils come off of the harness. I extended the #6 wire to reach the rotated position of the coil.

THANKS to Wrathernaut for bringing this issue to light. You WILL have this issue with the swap if you try to just plug and play. If you are going to extend the wiring please STAGGER your connections and use SHRINK tube and SOLDER. No other method is appropriate for this type of wiring.

You will need to extend the wiring to #6 Injector Coil to do this swap, modify the mount for #6 coil to turn it 180*, or purchase a pre modded plug and play cover from me.

The Passenger side valve cover requires NO MODIFICATION. Only the driver-side needs to be modded.

The wiring will have to be secured with your own craftsmanship as you are eliminating one or two hold downs by doing this.
Also obviously you will need a slightly longer funnel to fill oil, and will not be able to fill without engine cover removal (who still has an engine cover?)

Guys with Kinetix don't need to mod ANYTHING they will just bolt right up.
Guys who have done a wire-tuck should not need to extend wiring to #6 Ignition coil.

you NEED to change both at the same time if you want to retain the stock Crankcase vent crossover tube. If you only change one you will need to come up with your own crossover hose

That is interesting. I guess it hasnt been known until now the Maxima VCs can be used. Thanks for this man I need to get this done too.

Do any aftermarket oil caps work better, or is the only solution going to be a modified oem?

there are a few different ways and thing to consider for all the mods here. The oil cap can be replaced with a different one that would clear, yup! It would need to be quite a bit shorter to fit. I have a Nismo one I can try and report back. However it would be trial and error and everyone would have to share their findings to locate one that works well.

Another option is to actually grind the aluminum corner on the lower intake manifold. Which is the way I will end up doing it on my final in-car installation, but I figured that cutting plastic is easier for the majority of people vs. grinding/cutting aluminum.

Wouldnt an oil cap from the 04/05 Maxima work??

The caps are the same on the G and the Maxima. It's the orientation that is different. Have a peek at the comparison picture again.
The G valve cover has an extended piece the moves the cap up and away from where the intake manifold sits. On the Maxima, in FWD orientation, there is no intake there, so the cap just screws right onto the valve cover without the extension piece.


Also, Disclaimer: I have not run an engine with these on yet. I see no reason for concern, everything is the same once modded except for wiring mount locations and oil fill cap. I even tested depths and cam clearance to the cover on the Revup engine. I just haven't physically run a car with them yet as my car is currently waiting on an intake pipe before it can run.
Also the Maxima engine is the exact same. there really isn't going to be a problem :)

Can you get them individually? If so, the passenger one is 100% direct swap at less than $100?

The issues with the oil cap might convince me to get a G35 VC. I just like things to work as originally intended. However, having an cheaper option is huge!


My VC's have been leak-free for 130K miles, but I'm probably due to take a peek and confirm they still are.

Strange how the seals were not updated on the g35, not even on the 2006 g35?

You can only install just one valve cover if you modify the Crossover tube for the crankcase vent.
If you install both Valve covers you do not need to modify the crossover
