What to do if you lock your keys in your car or trunk...

Ok, I admit it, I did this. When I bought my car, I was only given the one key and the one keyfob, both on the same ring. On my way to work, I started looking, I looked for them EVERYWHERE...and I thought I lost them. Car locked, no key, and in order to get another key made (incase you actually DO lose it) is to get the car FLATBED TOWED to Infiniti...$300 plus. Ouch.

I'm lucky, however, when after a week of no driving, flaming accusations of roommates and dogs, and the general insanity of not being able to drive it, I realized they must have fallen out of my shirtpocket into the trunk when detailing. So, here is how to get them back.

Be prepared to set off your alarm......

1) The window glass can be pried open just enough in the top corner opposite the mirror to get a long bent rod down to the unlock switch on the door handle. If you are graceful enough, you can snag it.... Voila unlocked doors. Slim jims dont work. I suggest a locksmith for this...they have the scratchproof tools and it is only $25. If you have roadside assistance, you will get a refund check for this if you file a claim.

2) KEYS IN THE TRUNK
I am writing this because it wasn't obvious how to get into the trunk from the owners manual. I had no switch in the glovebox, and the automatic opener wouldn't work (at driver's left knee.)
I looked and looked...then found a paragraph for opening the trunk with a discharged battery....

a)Pull drivers seat up as far as it will go.
b)Grab the backseat cushion from the front and pull up and out HARD... you will dislodge it from a grommet holding it in
c)Once slid out of the way, look under the seatback for a red tassle. Pull this hard and you will unlock the seatback.
d) replace the rear cushion, and lower the seatback
e) crawl into the trunk and pull the manual lever on the top of the trunk lid.
f) POP (you just saved $300 dollars.)

Note...replace the trunk release lever back into its slot...or else it may not work properly again. Also, a key copy may be made that will unlock doors, but without that microchip key made by Infiniti it won't start your car.

Getting another programmable fob is a good idea as well.

A brand new microchip Infiniti key will cost you approx $150.

If, however, you ever DO lose the key to start it, Infiniti has to dismantle your door and locking mechanism, get the keycode off of the cylinder, and program a key based on that. Be prepared to pay. :-)

If I ever lock my keys in my car or trunk, I would use the wallet Key Infiniti provided to open the door and get my keys. Note that I was given two driving keys and two fobs, and my gf has the other set so I can just call her if my wallet was also locked in the car.

this step isn't needed... the red tassle can be pulled out by sticking your fingers under the rear back seat cushions

Anyone looking to break into cars knows that cars with frameless windows (like ours) are the easiest to break in to! Sux but what can ya do!

I know you would think that I gave away a state secret or something with that one.

To the best of my knowledge it was a secret..shh..!
